Where to find Yank Truck and average cost?
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:57:54 am »
Coming into spring / summer and im getting itchy for a new project..

Idealy I would like a classic thumping v8 american pickup, something 60s to early 80s..  But the price of ones I have seen are putting me off being around 5-10k..  Idealy the body work should be alright, but im not too bothered about the engine as I can just throw a crate in...

Anyone know any good places to look for a half-project?

What are average costs for a stepside/f150 or similar that you have seen?

Ive seen a few beetles that I wouldnt mind fooling about with, they are fairly cheap (about 1k for a ratty) with parts being plentiful, so I need encouraging to go in the yank direction..  Also, I didnt really want to go back to the vdub scene.....

Thats about the right money for a truck mate. You might find a complete basket case for less than £4k. The other alternative is to find something in the  USA and bring it in but your gonna be about the same money

Trucks in the UK are just way over priced which is why I don't own one

Your gonna be spending at least £7k to get anything decent without interstella mileage

Yup, its the reason ive stopped looking for a truck as a dailey driver, you can get more for your cash by buying a brand new UK spec truck.  So figured I would go with the original plan and look for a project but most are sooo expensive, no real good projects out there.  The ones that are availiable are either already done and commanding a high price or total sh1tters for a medium price!  Thats the only good thing about the vdub scene is the fact that their is alot of them about which keeps the prices realitivly low..

If you search craigslist and ebay you will find simaler trucks for slightly less, that was the 1st one i found on ebay

Just stick to dry states and if you do look on the west coast try to get an inland vehicle as the salt from the ocean rusts everything in california y the coast

The guy that owns this is desperate to sell, i reckon if you waved £3k under his nose you'd get it

Red wheels and matt black paint doesnt give you the right to call it a ratrod

I think thats the only way to get a truck for what its actually worth instead of paying 2/3k over the top becuase its already in England..

Dont forget you'll pay 22% duty on an old truck as it's classed as a commercial vehicle
