Thinking of installing some decent speakers into my dailey Mondeo.  I have a 180watt headunit in there right now, its okay so dont really want to replace that..

The biggest speakers are in the front doors becuase the rear speakers can only go in the rear doors but the hole is too small to put anything bigger in..  Im thinking of putting some beasts into the tailgate (as its an estate, there is no parcel shelf).

My quesiton is about an amp.  Do I need one?  Or can I just piggy back from the rear speaker wire?  I dont really want to spend money for the sake of it, but ive never really used amps before so dont know.........

Do you just run an input into an amp which is then split a few more times but at a better quality?  So you could have 6 or 10 speakers say?

If you piggy back the speakers you will half the impedance and burn out the head unit

even with cross overs he will have the same problem, unless he uses 8Ω units

you need to use an amp if your runing more channels than your head unt can supply

just get a cheap amp bud, they cost nothing, spare the stereo the extra work and give you the best results the speakers can.......

on a small upgrade like what it sounds like, just go to a good audio place on any industrial estate....

Cool tanks..  Ill just get an amp..  Never used one before, do you just wire the stereo to it, then take feeds from a seperate contact for each individual speaker?

it can get a bit involved, i put 7 speakers in my day van ,
one a 300w sub, had a multi channel amp, fed by the headunit, then wired up to the speakers
This forum needs, ''YOU'' posting,Not just reading ! :moon:

I just shoved one of these in the boot of the Mustang, supplements my speakers quite nicely.  The amp is inbuilt.

Though I only paid £60 for mine (couple of years ago off Egay) so shop around

me too.  Tis very good (for the money).  I got a refurb one for around £60 too.

Makes a big difference.
