Title: Andy - Mondeo, again....
Post by: Cunning Plan on October 11, 2012, 07:43:22 pm
Hey bud, do you know if the MK2 1.8 1999 Petrol Mondeo has a limp mode?

My Dad's one won't rev past 3k rpm (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/TutTutSmiley.gif)

It has been okay for a while, then he noticed a rattle from the exhaust, which sounds like the baffles in the cat-converter. Now the car won't rev past 3k RPM, much like a limp-mode (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/chiny.gif)

Would the cat-converter cause a limp-mode? Or perhaps the exhaust is getting blocked when that amount of engine pressure is applied? (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)

Any thoughts? (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/huh.gif)

Hmm, to be honest I'm not expert with the petrol Mk2. They do have an ECU so highly likely it's gone into a 'help me help me!!' mode.

Is it cock on 3k rpm that it stops?

I suppose it's possible the rattling you're hearing could be the O2 sensor, but that unlikely to have fallen out or anything, but that might be why it's throwing up a

Have you actually got through flow from the exhaust, and at a decent amount?

Pulled from another forum, does it have TCS fitted? (Long shot)

I need to get someone to rev it for me whilst I check, I'll do that this weekend.

It doesn't, no.

Ford are pissing me off recently. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/mad.gif) (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif)

I might make a thread about it all later, but 5 different Ford cars all with issues. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/down.gif)

Woah, woah there. Fix Or Repair Daily, surely you got the email when you bought it them.

My Focus I think is suffering an issue at the moment, but I can't really describe it, and I know if I take it into the garage under warranty they'll just tell me to do one.

Best bet is have a look at this rattle. If you have something restricting the exhaust, at a guess it could be screwing up a sensor reading and making it think it has an issue.

The reason I asked about the TCS is there is a thing about the actual unit locking up the throttle cable for anything above 3k.

How did you get on with this in the end CP?

Booked mine into the dealers.

Have a slow speed stall issue, if i'm doing less than 10 mph and i take my foot off the throttle the revs drop below 500rpm and it either stalls or stumbles to the point it brings on the battery light.

Ironically I think it has a bloody misfire. Seeing as it's under warranty til march next year, I ain't touching it! (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)

That is rubbish Andy (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/down.gif) but at least it is under warranty still (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/chiny.gif) Shame our Fiesta isn't (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/sad.gif)

I've had an OBD scanner on it returning no faults and no sensor issues, changed the coil-pack, checked and cleaned the spark plugs, it had a service not so long ago, but it is still juddering at low rpm in most gears. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/mad.gif)

So, it looks like this 2008, '58 plate with under 50k on it has clutch judder (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/shame.gif)

******* Fords (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif)

They are currently being the bane of my existence, they are really easy to find on this one. Only problem is I'm banned from touching it as it's under warranty! (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

Main dealers have rung back, apparently well over due a PCM update which it's now had but they can't replicate the fault. So I'm picking it up at lunch time and will probably drive it back to work and have the fault happen again. Brilliant.
