Seems pretty good value for money IF everything stated is true.

2002 was the change over year with a facelifted version being released, so pre-facelifters may be a lil cheaper than post.

2002 also saw Ford drop the TDDi engine for the TDCi which either comes in 115 bhp or 130 bhp variety. Just make sure you have a TDCi rated at 130 bhp for that price. The TDDi is regarded as the better engine, but the TDCi you will get the power and mileage as RK can show (do bare in mind he has a 6 speed box too)

Other than that, give it a long test drive, check out for turbo smoke when pulling away and listen for suspension knocks and bangs.

Awesome, thanks Andy....

On my searches over night Have made me want to settle for the TDCI 130bhp model.

Just wondered if that was a reasonable price to base my searches on...

How exactly can you tell the difference between the two

I'd also have thought by this stage a ropey 130 would be slower than a really nice 115.

By just looking in the bay, there is nothing more than a sticker with the rated power on it, but it's all down to the engine size.

The 1.8 TDCi was rated at 115bhp and the 2.0 TDCi was rated at 130bhp.

Ford added to the line up around 04-05 the Diesel ST. Came with Zetec-S body kit and ground effects, big alloys and a 2.2 TDCi rated at 148bhp. It seems a popular car and one that holds it value. Great mileage and great performance in what is good looking car.

Fieldy, I'd add the same as to what I did to RK's original post about his. If it hasn't had a clutch change yet, factor in this with a DMF, together they're about £700-£1k. It's a bloody poxy thing to have to have changed at the same time but they recommend it.

Don't you love how car companies do this? we are just emerging from the curse of the cam belt, when manufacturers decide their new thing (well, 10 years ago now) will be the equally expensive and failure prone DMF...

Oh, here's one for you, who released the first common rail diesel engine (in 1997)?

How about the new super fuel efficient diesels fitted with particulate filter (or something like that) I don't know the exact details but the apparently cost a fortune to replace and are a main piece in keeping the emission levels down so required under an MOT.

Looks like Andy has got you pretty well covered. I don't know that much about the MK3s. Although, I would want that to come down in price a bit. It isn't an estate, has no tow bar, it is the standard trim and it is 2002. I would want it around the 1200 - 1300 mark - but it is on eBay, so it will go for more than its 'true' value.

I wouldn't buy from eBay, get an idea of what you want, go to Auto-trader, Piston Heads, Motors Today or look locally and you should find something cheaper and better than that.

Alternativly, I would be tempted to put a little more into the pot and get something really high spec like a Ghia, estate and younger (£2100?).

I would go with Hyandai or Toyota.
1968 VW T2 Bay Bus (currently being restored and upgraded)
1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ (modern classic daily driver)

I can't be bothered to sell the Blazer, so am looking for a p/x, am in talks with the fella selling this one.... (am not needing/wanting to actively sell the Blazer mind, am just testing the water for options or I will keep it)

Just trying to come to an agreement now.

As for the DMF shit, well, I guess I will have to get used to that the newer the cars I buy, so far I have only owned one newish car, the rest being 2000 or earlier

TDCI 130bhp model

That's what I've got

My 2005 Estate sost me £1900 but was high miles, albeit very well maintained - a further 10,000 miles and there's been no major issues.

Alfa Romeo.

The 1997 156 JTD was the first common rail diesel out there. It was adopted by saab, vauxhall and a few others (notably ford, in the 2008 onwards Ka, Cadillac in the awful BLS and suzuki in the very good swift) a year or two later.

Did not know that. I guess a lot more is shared sold B2B between manufacturers and Tier I suppliers supplying several different makes all at the same time.
