I've put the gearbox on ebay for auction, first time I've ever used it. Is it common for people to email and ask for the reserve price? I'm of the opinion that they need to bid to find that out? What would you lot do as most of you seem to have used ebay in the past.

I've had half a dozen emails now asking for the reserve

I suppose it depends.... If your very happy with getting just the reserve price then theres probably no harm. But if you think it's possible to get more than the reserve then keep it quiet.

I've never really understood why ebay hide the reserve price. At the end of the day it's the minimum price you will accept, so why shouldn't people know?

Personally I'd advertise the reserve in the ad (Although personally I don't bother with reserves. If I want a minimum amount, that's where the start bid goes!)

Personally I never use reserves. Personally they put me off because you could be wasting you time if the seller is unrealistic.

I start it at the lowest price I'll take (it usually goes).

As you've got 0 feedback and are selling something for 99p people are likely to think it's a scam at face value.

Ahh, being new to Ebay I didn't think of that, should I remove the reserve then or put it on as a minimum price? I thought £450 which is as cheap as chips

Only if you are going to raise the start price at the same time, it's not the sort of thing you want to sell to a single bidder of 99p!!

Being as you've been asked the question, you can answer one of them and tick the option that publishes the response at the bottom of your listing.

Fixed price format with the option to accept offers I found works the best.. Same principle as telling people your reserve, but people can see how much you want, and offer close to that amount. Just like classified ads in the paper, car at 500ono..

The description says its clearly not an older version and will only fit an LS1 - most people don't seem to know the difference anyway, do they Titsy

This is true, and probably the best reason to put up the correct pic. the last thing you want is someone lodging an action against you with ebay because the item you've sold them isn't what was pictured and they didn't realise the difference because of that.

I'd agree with Titsy, it annoys me if I've bid on something basing it's condition by the photo, then finding it's not the actual item.

I agree a gearbox is a little different, but maybe you should at least add 'Photo is for representation only - not actual item'? - Although that may it look even more like a scam

Problem is the higher start price you set, the more you pay in fees. Hence why people start auctions at 99p.

You also get charged accordingly for the reserve value. The higher reserve the more you pay....

ive done really well with ebay, buying and selling,

just need a bit of experiance,and patience with idoits,

im sure if ya advertised your box ,in the right place ray,it would be snapped up and save you having to dump it....

If someone with good feedback wants to volunteer to sell it they can have 10% of the proceeds
