Looking for a diesel dailey driver. Something big would be preferred but it can't be some yank monster diesel cummings - the key here is saving money on fuel!

So, anyone know of a 4x4, estate, pickup etc for sale?

if you can find a decent one for sensible money, the Mercedes E300 turbodiesel is awesome - mercedes have the diesel engine pretty much sussed, as do VAG dont even consider a yank oil burner, they are nasty.

my brother has the 97 (round head light) estate, its done 180,000 miles, has cost £50 in 3 years in repairs, and runs and drives like a new car.

Yep, I knew VAG have the best diesel engines out there which eventually find their way into other cars...

I was mainly looking at:

Ford Mondeo Estate
Ford Galaxy
VW Sharran
Ford Maverick (just a Nissan - now scratched off as fuel economy is pants)..
VW Passat..

Really I want a 4x4

My old guv'nor had one of those and the economy as frightening - seriously.

The thing went through juice like there was a hole in the tank !

What's wrong with your current Mondy ?

How much have you got? The high miler mk3 mondy estates are pretty good. If you're not looking for anything special the lx is pretty much sussed. The 1.8 has plenty of poke at 115bhp, the guy next door to us at work runs a plumbers merchant and uses his as a van as the back folds completely flat. I'm looking for the more sportier Zetec-s diesel estate.

modys are a good bet, as their price drops as they come off of fleets...
