Quoting: F Body
Car £400 ?

£300 for the car
£50 for the trailer

and

£50 for the repair of the trailer after we broke it

Quoting: F Body
Total £1,600 still budget I surpose but I was thinking more shoe string

The origional budget was estimated to be £2000 so this isnt that bad,

There will also be around £400 worth of machining and there will always be a couple of hundred quid for extras that you never budget for like fluids, gaskets, other things you break etc...

Also we still need to replace the rear breaks.

£2000 might sound alot but for what the car will be once it is finished thats not a bad price.

you could have fixed it for a lot less but we wanted a race motor not a daily driver.

Its still a cheap car as 2nd gen birds normally go for about £3k upwards depending on condition

Yeah in hindsight it might have been an idea to stop at the local garage and put air in the tyres

Well we stripped the bottom end of the motor today. Not a pretty sight nearly all the bearings had damage and a couple had some serious grooves both mains and rods. Then on close inspection a crack in the block so the motor is now junk. The hairline crack is on the middle web and runs through the location stud for the bearing cap. Now this would be fine for a daily driver but sticking 500+hp through it will just be to risky so looks like we need a new block. Will be calling andy when he gets back to his shop on wednesday.

Yeah not a problem though as i can get another block from andy. I reckon its gonna be cheaper to get another block and have it bored than it would have been to have the original block bored in the UK.

Yup, the block would be fine in daily use but the stresses that drag racing would put on it there is a chance the small fracture could become a major issue resulting in catastrophic failure.

Out of interest, are you swapping the drum brakes out for discs?
