Title: 4th Gen Camaro Bump Stop replacement.
Post by: F Body on September 24, 2011, 08:03:50 am
To be honest I was surprised that the Camaro passed it's MOT in August because the bump stops are knackered (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/wink.gif)

The GM ones are made from a foam which falls apart after a few years and they cost about £60 each (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/down.gif)

After much trawling of the interweb thingy,I purchased two polyurethane Jeep bump stops from Energy Suspension ( part No. 9.9137R ) for $18.99.

£31.78 total delivered to UK (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)

The main issue with fitting them is the lip on the mounting point that most people just cut off :

Well I ain't cutting my chassis about (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/rtfm.gif)

After dissecting the old ones I realized that with some spacers ( M12 nuts and a stainless steel washer ) and longer fixing bolts, that I could  utilise the old mounts and that then they would be exactly the same height as the old ones (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/cool.gif)

Cut off original mount :

M12 nuts :

Stainless Steel Washers :

Longer fixing bolts :

Finished job took about an hour and a half at 5am this morning (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/wink.gif)

NB : If you use an 18" socket extension you don't even have to take the wheel off (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/wink.gif)

I bought the same stops but opted for some machined spacers to fit the chassis.

Ideally I'd have made my own spacers but just don't have the time, hence the early morning start.
SLP do a nice cast aluminium spacer but they are $110 dollars a set + deliverly (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/sad.gif)
