Author Topic: Anyone recommend a plastic polish for scratches? (Read 8782 times)

There are some very light scratches on my girlfriend's new car head-unit (factory fit one with bluetooth, stalk controls etc - not replacing it), can anyone recommend a 'plastic' or glass polish that will gently smooth the scratches out?

I was going to just try anything, but I'm worried about the material going hazey.

Plastic is a git because it will haze. We've had the same issue here, all we've really found is anything with abrasive particles/fibres will make it worse. Could try a dremel with a polish mop with nothing on it, very very gently.

How bad are they? Got any photos?

I can get some - they are hardly noticeable unless there is direct sunlight on it and you look at it from a certain angle. I am guessing the last owner of the car was a woman who kept her handbag in the front passenger footwell and 'dragged' it out of the car across the stereo

But you would be able to see some fine scratches with a camera flash I guess..

I ment your missus but a cat stereo will have to do.

To be honest if it's not that noticeable you may make it worse. So best off leaving it, also ban handbags from the front seat.

Ahh, exactly what I was thinking

However, I have some of this stuff:

I might try this with a soft cloth - I don't think it has anything abrasive in it..

What do you think?

I've used regular Autoglym Resin Polish on CD / DVDs before, they come out fine.
I would say just don't lean on it, take your time & use a little pressure & varying strokes, she'll appreciate it a lot more...

Nope that's just a resin polish

Brasso works well but tends to be too viscous

Two good on line stores ( i.e. cheap with prompt delivery ) are M&P and Busters,

Forgot to say, cheers guys, Xerapol is amazing stuff - I was a bit sceptical, but the headunit looks like new

However, I did forget that it's an abrasive and I accidentally rubbed off a 'MP3' logo on the unit
