Anyone got an old (working) Alternator ?
« on: February 26, 2007, 11:15:57 am »
Doesn't have to be pretty but a V-belt pulley would be needed.

Just need to Borrow one to offer up to my Caddy's block to measure-up for the new brackets I need manufacturing.  Also a working one would be great to sort the connections and stuff out.

And before anyone says it - my Camaro's Alternator has got a serp pulley.

My 56 has an alternator on it and in theory the bracketry you require should be the same. You're welcome to come over and have a look some time if it helps.

From what Dean was saying yesterday he want's to move the alternator up to where the fuel pump is in that pic above the water pump.

may get a bit hot there though right behind the rad with no airflow to cool it

No room.

The pulleys clear the cross member by about 1/2" . . . It's even notched for the bottom rad hose . . . .

That's very kind of you, Mate . . . Could possibly pop over on Sunday if you're available . . . ?

Should be about early am, or a bit later in the afternoon.

I was going to shoot down to the NSRA swap meet at Arena Essex in between. Think that starts 10ish.

May even take a run down in the 56 Caddy if the weathers OK, lack of wiper motor prevents me taking it if its pouring down.

Tell me about it . . . mine do a (slow) 40* pass if i'm lucky . . .

The MKB meet is on Sunday at about 3pm so I was thinking before then . . ?

If you're busy, no problem . . . If you're likely to get back early-ish let us know.

not as bad as the truck then, they did a full sweep but you'd have been better off just asking the rain drops to get off the screen

I put Rain-X on the screen before going to Billing last year . . . on the way back it hammered down . . . . Providing I was going 35mph or above the rain just bounced off the screen.

Rain-X 4 teh win !!!!1111

There was no wiper motor on the car when i got it. I've ordered one of these from a dealer in the states but its taking an age to get here. About 6 weeks so far. I reckon the guy has sent it surface mail.

A little bird . . . or not so . . . told me that the wiper motors are the same on the '57 Chevy's . . . . only about $40 cheaper ?

One of those is definately on the list . . . . pity I can't use it with the slider switch . . .

Indeed... Works great on the 4th gen with the deep raked screen... the rain just balls up the screen and it never gets wet...

Several people told me a 57 Chevy one would fit but nobody new anyone with one fitted to prove it so i didnt want gamble just in case.

I dont keep the car at home, its on a mates farm in Bovingdon, near Hemel. Probably be easier to meet you nearby if it pans out otherwise you drive past the car to get to my house.
