Title: Time to sell the Z28 ?
Post by: F Body on May 31, 2006, 01:23:58 pm
Having spent the whole day detailing the Z28 I'm begining to think the unthinkable ?
It's getting increasingly hard to keep her in 95% tip top condition (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/sad.gif)

The bonnet is approaching respray time and there are a couple of other areas which could benefit from a little spray.
The leather is starting to look worn on the drivers seat and I can't source the plastic seat runner trim ?
I've spent the last few weeks trying to source replacement under bonnet stickers without success , three main reasons for the parts problems.

1 / It was made in Canada and the plant shut in 2002.

2 / Total model year build was only about 28,000 with about 2,300 Euro Spec models.

3 / It's still too new to appear in the classic ranges like the 1st , 2nd & 3rd Gens.

I really don't want "her" to become just another used 4th Gen , but can't really justify spending thousands to bring her back to A1 condition.

Dude.

That's serious.

Do you really need her to be A1 ?

All cars get old eventually, yours is still the neatest Z28 I know.

As long as you still enjoy driving her I don't see a major problem . . . especially when she's mechanically A1.

. . Or if you have to have "A1" do you go for another new motor ?

I'd go for the first gen myself. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

A 1st gen is number 2 on my shopping list becuase they are too bland IMO, a 71' 2nd Gen Z28 is at the top of the F Body list.
Still have this strong hankering for a pickup truck , but they are just stupid money (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/mad.gif)
Having said that I've just seen an SRT-10 crew cab 04 with 5,000 miles go for £26,000 that's cheap !!!

Edit : Inc VAT.

No what I said was "bland" which that one certainly isn't (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/up.gif)
Me thinks that is going to go for a lot more than $16,000 ?
Pickups in general just seem over priced , having driven a stock 56 Chevy 3 speed they is no way in hell I'd have a standard one.
Anything decent is up to £15K , chuck in a decent motor and some rodding and £20K comes knocking on the door.
Seen some real dogs for £10K (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/shame.gif)

They can build them so much cheaper then we can . . . . . It's irritating, really.

Back to the original topic... (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/shame.gif)

Your thinking of selling the z28 because it's not perfect any more? That's barmy. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/tongue.gif)
You can either keep it perfect or drive it. Personally I've never seen the point of a car that isn't driven.

Give it a blat down the drag strip some time. You might end up with a different set of priorities after that. (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/drive.gif)

no mate thats the price including all taxes just worked it out for you (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/wink.gif)

you pay 10% on the purchase of the car

then 17.5% on the purchase of the car and the shipping cost inclusive of the 10% duty

or how about this

Yeh I know where your coming from but as your aware it does get driven just not as much as I'd like.

Suppose I do it because not many people can or want too ?
How many times have you looked at a "true survior" car and thought if only ?
7 years down , only 23 to go and it's a classic ?

If your gonna do that you need to seal it up and store it away.

If your enjoyment comes from the polishing cleaning showing and driving  then time to move on and find something else to do all of the above too

consider it like this....

with the decent ammount youu could get for your Z28, you could afford a sound thirdgen, and have the budget to bring it right up to show winning (well, you know what i mean, coz thirdgens dont win shows..(http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)) standard...

something less comon than a Z28 or IROC... perhaps a sport coupe?

hmmm...... where could you find a nice un abused sport coupe that may be for sale localy?

hmmmm.................................(http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/shame.gif)

I would hope that it is already at Show winning standard , I just have very high standards (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/cool.gif)
Because I know every inch of the car so well I can see signs of deterioration which other people wouldn't/couldn't see , I do find it very therapeutic after a hard days slog to slink off down to the garage and polish my bits (http://www.mkb.cc/forum/smileys/shame.gif)
