Just been looking at prices for a roller-shutter door for the garage.

Surprisingly cheap, TBH.

About £367 for a manual driven one.

That's gotta be cheaper then the current (broken) one landing on one of the cars . . . .

Now looking into the cost of an insulated door . . with motor and remote transmitters . . .

£863.50 (inc vat)

But - If I can buy it through work and knock the vat off it's £734.89

Very expensive, but far superior to the door I was originally looking at  . . .

Well if you want a standard door i should be able to get you something for around £80 and you could insulate it for not much at all with some plastic sheet and a can of expanding foam

Taking into consideration the the room the "Up and over" style doors require and their frame, I'd be gaining over a foot of room in the garage when the Caddy's in there by going with the roller-shutter . . . .

But it is bloody expensive . . . !

Like anything with property - it's never easy.

You either do it cheap and it shows or you're not happy with it.  Or

You do the expensive option and know it's what you want and that you'll be happy with it.

You have to ask yourself are you gonna be there long term or are you just spending money that you will either not see back or give some one else the benefit of.

That's not the issue, TBH - I'm happy that I'd get enough use out of it to justify its purchase once it's there . . . . . It's just justifying the purchase in the first place !

Go for the roller shutter door , I've lost count of the number of times I've pressed the button on our up & over and hit the car outside
Good job I paid the extra for the pressure sensative switch which cuts it out before any damage occurs - hopefully
Only thing to watch with the roller shutters is get an inside mounting one , so that you get the extra width between the pillars and how noisy it is ?
My old man had a plastic roller shutter door fitted and it rattles like mad when raising or lowering

New door ordered . . . I went for the cheaper option.

Manual, steel Roller-shutter door.

£360-odd - the type I was originally looking at.

Delivery is 2-3 weeks . . .

People over the road from me have a remote roller door garage.. Is awesome esp in winter / rain.

Our doors are pants all broken and skanky.  Been thinking about making up some barn door style ones cheaply..  4 hinges 2 doors and a big lock
1968 VW T2 Bay Bus (currently being restored and upgraded)

Not heard anything re: delivery as yet.

Hoping it's in a week or so (as I've got a few days off).

Unfortunately, I only get 20 days a year, unlike council workers who rarely work at all !!!

I plan to head to Portsmouth for one of the days - See the ships again and maybe the new tower . . .
