I don't go in there now as I refused to pay the original £5 much less the £8 and now the £25.
But I haven't used public transport instead.  no, I just take my business to out of town retail centres and malls.

Bottom line:  Local businesses suffer.


As for the tube, yes it's good outside rush hour (it's beyond unpleasant in rush hour) and only as long as it works.  If there's a problem, it takes at least an hour if not more to get things back up to speed again and in the meantime you're screwed.

Case in point:  Today I was in Chancery Lane in central London.  At 6pm I left the office to take the tube on the Central Line.  Someone had been taken ill at Tottenham Court Road Station (2 stops down) and as a result the Central Line was frozen.  As the buses were packed and cabs all taken I walked 2 stops to Tottenham Court Road and spent a half hour wandering around the shops.  The tube was still knackered so I then walked another stop to Soho and went to a restaurant there.  About an hour later the tube was still experiencing some delay.  So I grabbed a cab and at Liverpool Street Station could jave got out and taken the Circle Line to Tower Bridge.  But that was also experincing knock on delays so I ended up taking the cab all the way to Tower Bridge where the Cadillac was parked and drove home in 20mins, along the route the delayed Central Line takes...

Saw the news on this last night and it made for some interesting viewing, the new system that sees a £25 a day hike on fuel guzzlers is estimated to reduce the carbon output by vehicles entering the congestion charge zone by

wait for it

7,500 Tonnes a year out of the 8,000,000 tonnes created already, so basically next to no difference what so ever,

the government on the other hand estimate it will generate a further £30,000,000 in revenue.

Interesting!

On top of that, it will by Ken Livingstone's (SP?) own admission have little to no effect on congestion.

Seems like a money making scheme to me, £30m of easy money.
