I'll have a look, but don't remember there being a screw-fitting on the valve.

Worst case scenario is I've gotta drink 37 pints in under a week and replace the lid for next time.

<sigh>

I think I can cope.

Dean,

There are about 20 odd Bulmers / Crabbies / Koppaberg bottles for you at the Rose, there will likely be more than 30 after today because of the usual friday evening and we had a wedding function this afternoon.

I will be at the pub Tomorrow afternoon for one reason or another if you want to pop over & collect the bottles (Bring Bags)
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Sounds a plan - let me know what time you're there.

I do have to be on site tomorrow morning but I'm hoping it won't drag into the afternoon (famous last words . . . . )

OK Mr B my last brew of fruit cider was OK, worked out at 4.5% and was very lively

I want to brew a beer with good flavor, tasting something like Pedigree or Timothy Taylor's ?

Got any ideas

TTL is a very hoppy beer ,
and not one you will copy from a kit tbh..

there are shed loads of hops in it a lot of which are added at the end of the boiling...and during fermenting,

pedigree is an easier one to copy ...the woodfordes wherry kit is similar a sort of tasty bitter but no overly hoppy,

http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Woodfordes_Wherry_Beer_Kit.html?gclid=CNeDgdqj37gCFaKWtAodHgUAmQ#.UfvrUByt8rg

its probably similar to the kit RK has made,
as a lot of the kits are made by the same brewers [muntons]and then badged up for different markets...

Looks OK at £19.56 but the shipping looks steep

I'd guess that it's going to weigh over 1kg

Shipping :

For UK
All UK Under 1kg £3.12
Mainland UK Over £65 FREE
Mainland UK Under £65, But Over 1kg £6.5

this is often the case, inc ebay..

you can get the woodfordes kit in wilkinsons if you have one in town,

they will get them in the store, to collect if you order them on line ...the other option is to find a hb shop locally or somewhere your visiting...

Tried a bit of mine last night (there was no pressure in the keg to push the beer out so I only got about 1/4 pint before it started trying to suck back) . . .

I tastes pretty darn good.  Very bubbly at the moment but I intend to leave if for another 2 weeks minimum.

A little cloudy - medium brown in colour.

I'd guess around 1-2% alcohol at the moment (you could taste it was there) . . .

BTW - My keg just has a rubber-top valve on it so I'm guessing a new lid is in order . . .

i would have expected a fair bit of pressure did you prime the beer in the keg with sugar ...?
another lid will enable co2 to be added ...

Yeah - 76g (it worked out at 2g/pint but I bottled 2 bottles separately and it asked for 80g in total).

That's what I thought . . . I'll have a search . . .

Thermometer would be handy.

And you'll need a pressure keg or 40 bottles when it's ready.

Think I already have a suitable thermometer but will check.

Up to over 20 bottles so I think...hic may have been seeing double

Paul's got some for me as well.

Might still get the pressure barrel but it's another £20.

Do I still need the sugar if I'm using a kit?

Next silly question..is there anything special about the a trial jar or is it just a convenient container to float your Hyrometer?

Really?

O.K, let me put it another way.  If the kit needs sugar - you'll need to buy it separately.  If it doesn't - you won't.

Nothing special but I think the "exact" volumes are used for calculating the alcohol.

As Art said before - if you're not fussed just dump it in the bucket and leave it there !

a two can kit has enough fermentables not to need extra sugar ...

white sugar will sometimes give a beer a twang due to the way the yeast consumes it ,you can add brown sugars or brewing sugars ,
