Computer Monitor / TV?
« on: October 30, 2007, 11:51:45 am »
Just about to buy a 22" ws monitor for my rig..  But Im just thinking, am I better off buying a plasma / LCD tv and using that as a monitor or is there a good reason not to use a HDMI tv as a monitor?

I'd double check the resolutions, a decent dedicated monior might have a higher res than a tv.  but if you happy with somthing like 1680 by 1050 it should be ok

Other than that I can't think of anything, most LCD tellys have VGA or DVI connectors I believe.  Wouldn't get Plasma though, pixels prob a bit large for close usage.

If you go for a 1080p LCD or Plasma you should be fine, be carefull with the cheaper LCD's as they have funky resolutions

I drive the mini through a video scaler anyways so i get a hell of a picture

Hmm okay, good points.

I heard that if you use a large tv, like 32"+ its just too big to use as a comptuer monitor unless you sit quite far away, which means not that great for games and work, but more as an armchair browser..

The monitor im looking at is http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131836 which seems a good price for the spec and its £10 off through google checkout!  But at the same time id like to get rid of the large 26" CRT tv out of the room which got me thinking about just going straight for a tv...  But I do like to play games, so sitting close to the monitor is important and considering you can use any computer monitor as a TV anyway, makes me think its easier to do it the other way monitor as a tv rather than tv as a monitor..

Damit..  I was hoping you guys would of talked me out of using the tv so i can just buy the monitor

On here, you'll only get talked out of buying something, if it means buying something even more expensive and excessive instead.

Seriously considering upgrading my p!ssy little monitor . . . .

Basically doing the same thing, replacing the TV at the same time.
