Anyone been to Machine Mart ?
« on: February 23, 2007, 03:08:52 pm »
Do they display the products in their catalogue ?

I ask as I'm eyeing up a tool cabinet but want to be at least fairly happy with the quality before ordering it.

the edmonton one is just round the corner from me... they display a few of the smaller things but not much of the big stuff.  not sure on the tool cabs though.. which one are you looking at because Costco have an AWESOME stainless steel one for around £450

Oh, the Clarke Black/Gold one . . . I need more space and their extra wide one would do nicely . .

The Machine Mart at Haymills on the Coventry Road had a fair selection on display a couple of months ago but be warned, they do change it about quite often as do most of their stores.

I bought my Clarke tool chest from Pollards in Bletchley - they beat MMs price by a couple of quid - but they like me

Not so sure about the one in Costco - looked a bit cheap around the edges

What's the quality of the Clarke stuff ?

My current one's a Mac, but is just too small.

I would look on ebay, you can get mac and snap-on ones for next to nothing compared to the original cost

the one in costco is an american brand called csps metal, its all stainless steel, 17 drawers and 41" wide.  cspsmetal.com I think will link you to the site.

it did look cheaper than a mac or snapon but it is £450 which is less than 10% of a new snap on one..... so it'll do me.  I'm going to costco on Sunday so I'll see what the stock levels are like.... Do you have access to a van though?

I do, yeah.

I mentioned this as work normally give us a bonus in March and if I get them to "buy it for me" it means I get it VAT free.

I just want to make sure it's what I want.  I'm opting for the 1500mm High, extra wide one so it's gonna be haulin' some weight.

The Costco one looks the nuts imho.
Nice and shiney!
And v. cheap considering the size of it.

The Edmonton Machine Mart is tiny.
There is a WAY larger one near the Limehouse Link.
There is an average sized one on the A12, between the M25 and the A406 North Circular.

I'm going to Costco on Sunday (was just there this afternoon) and can take a couple of pictures if you like?

No, not bad . . . But I'd struggle to fit everything in there . . . .

I've been putting off buying aload of new tools simply as I've got no where to put them !

My Mac box is stuffed full . . . which is iritating as that way it's easy to not notice when tools go walk-about.

Been there a couple of times because it's the nearest one to Luton.
As Edge says it's not a very big shop and the traffic around there is bad
Last went to the big one in Twickenham a few weeks, which has loads on display
Generally MM stuff is reasonable quality at a reasonable price, but as with most single source shops some things are way over priced.

The other nearest one is in Peterborough I think

Looked at the Halfords "Industrial" range yesterday . . . Not bad . . . Probably the absolute bottom limit of what I'm looking for.

If the Clarke one is at least that good I'll go for that for the extra capacity.

Going to CostCo this week so will look at that S/S one.

I compared the Clarke Professional range with Halfrauds Professional; range - different as chalk and cheese. The Clarke was slightly more but had ball bearing runners etc, just felt more substantial

Snap-On and Mac are undoubtedly better quality but but not enough to justify the (vast) difference in beer vouchers imho
