Start You B'stard !

Some of you may recall after spending most of the winter ripping the Camaro apart I finally seemed to solve the non starting issue.

The old Gal was fine until about 3 weeks ago when the issue returned again

It doesn't throw any fault codes and all crank shaft sensor and MAF etc all show the correct signal. Last week I went old school with a 12v bulb wired to earth, this showed me that the ignition relay wasn't latching every time !

Having already bought a pattern fuel pump relay from USless Automotive for the rip off price of £18.18p, I couldn't stomach £32 each for the bigger ignition relay

So on Monday I ordered 2 small & 3 big genuine AC Delco relays from Rock Auto in States

Cost was only £14.26 but.............with shipping and VAT rose £58.88

Still cheap compared to UK prices and they arrived this morning

So it may solve the problem once and for all, or it may just be something else eliminated from the equation

Read about Rock Auto on another forum with their prices being REALLY cheap, but soon adds up with shipping and VAT. I also think there was something about how rarely the parts are in warehouse A and have to be shipped from somewhere else, which gets added on the bill.

Hope you get it sorted Martin, relays could quite easily be the issue. If they're left open, and the car isn't used regularly, corrosion if all but very fine can cause the contact area to break down.

Well after two weeks I finally managed to find 1/2 hour today to see if the old Gal would start

Fired on the button first time, drove over to Stevenage at high motorway speeds

Drove 22 miles and left her to idle for ten minutes to get her good and hot, turned her off and left her for 15/20 minutes for the heat to soak in

Fired on the button again

Not exactly conclusive but we'll see

Fired on the button again ???

Well 184 miles later and I've been using her as a daily this week, she's even done a trip to B&Q

She's been cold, warm, hot and damn hot.................

Still starting on the button every time

No point in pretending I can do 5,000 miles a year, I may make an all time best of 2,000 miles this year

What's the thing in the boot that is supporting the sand? Looks like a big divider thing?

Also, what's the sand for?

For my block paved drive, occasionally brushing kiln dried sand into the joints, firstly stops the blocks sinking and secondly stops most of the weeds growing

and the two spray bottle are for painting the fence
