Camaro MOT time.
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:12:13 pm »
The Z28's MOT runs out in a couple of weeks and I was thinking of doing the usual full service before the MOT.
However on inspection of the weekly mileage log she has only done 1,419 miles since last years full service
So not a lot of point in changing any fluids ( she had a full brake fluid change last September ) or changing any filters.
Basically I think it's a lights operation check and a buff up before departing for the MOT centre

Note to self : Drive the ruddy thing

NB : Since Management has driven it the last three times she did say that it might become her car

You could use that as an excuse to make sure that your next project is totally your choice and doesn't need approval

Martyn, did you do it yourself?  Understand can't just bleed the brakes on the Trans Am, and as the fuel lines need replacing, contacted a "well-known" company up North to find out how much they would charge - they said they had to see the car first  long way for us to go just for a quote.

Apparently it can be done with a Tech 2 tool - anyone got one we can hire
1998 Fiero GT (my toy)
2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 (Hubbys new toy!)

Surprisingly I had it done at the local Vauxhall Dealership just down the road, they said no chance at first until I told them that the system is similar to the Vauxhall Monaro

The best bit was it only cost £25.66 although that did include the GM Employee discount

NB : Tech 2 is the standard Vauxhall Diagnostic tool, although the newer models are now using Tech 3

But you will be changing the oil of course?
Should be done very 12 months regardless of mileage.

Well it's Castrol GTX Magnatec and the Camaro never gets driven for short journeys, so it seems a little premature

Don't think it has ever gone more than 3,000 miles without an oil & filter change, even the Panda gets done every 5,000 miles

no i haven't mate.

I spend more time cleaning it than i do driving it. I think i've done about 1500 miles since i've had it of you

I probably get it some time before christmas. the wife and kids love it. loads of room for the wife , dog and 2 kids ( my second was born 6 weeks ago hence the lack of computer action )

The camaro has been my centre of attention lately. I've had the rear quater sorted and i'm now rubbing her back to get rid of the patches of micro blisters and then a full respray is on the cards in the next couple of months.

here's a pic to remind you of the GMC

Well the plan is to sell early next year so really i would rather not, just because of the work involved.

the paint work isn't that bad, slight faded areas and a spot of micro blistering

It would only be if you were keeping it as the blisters will come through as they are in the paint below will take a good few months before they come back so hopefully you will have sold it by then.

It's this morning

Mind you I had a chat with the tester last year ( the 2nd time he had MOT'd it )
and he said that due it's condition / how clean it is / low mileage he really just gave it a once over
