Yup.

During the day at work I fuel myself on Asda's own brand slices/pasties.

Now, eaten cold these are O.K but cooked in the oven (not nuke-box) these are very tasty.

My particular favourites and those I'd recommend are :

Minced Beef & Onion,
Corned Beef,
Peppered Steak.

The Chicken and Mushroom ones are O.K but Chicken ain't real mans food, really, is it ?

The pastry used is good stuff, they're not to greasey, the sauces/gravy is tasty and there are pretty big chunks of meat in there . . I was genuinely impressed.

Two of these feed me entirely during the ten hour working day quite well and at effectively £1 a day or 50p each they make for good value eating if you're not a "get your lunch ready the day before" kinda guy or gal.

I buy 10 packs at a time and freeze those bad boys for consumption over a two week period.

They're the cheapest available I've found (compared to Tescos and Sainsburys) and get two thumbs up from me.

Eeeeeeehhh

Yep, have to agree with most of that.  Always have a decent supply in the freezer.

Its full of Protein though and quite tasty..  Sometimes good when you just dont want to run around the Serengeti to chase your meal before gorging yourself on the goo inside...

Asda is an awesome store though, niAceee and big compaired with Tesco, and more brand choice..  The car park spaces are bigger too

Not if you actually wont to cook a meal.  Great for ready meals though.  The fresh made pizza's rock for the price

The Luton one is exactly the opposite to all the above
Because it has long since become too small for the area and has expanded internally by using all the storage area, all the stock has to come straight from the lorries onto the shelves, this means empty shelves and pallets in the aisles at busy times
We still use it though because it's the only Poo-poo-market on this side of Luton.

Strange timing, I tried Tescos 4 pack of pasties last week as a "might be a cheap lunch" theory.

Ate 'em cold, they were ok.  Not Ginsters but then for the price...

Problem is it means going to Tesco, which I don't like.  Far too bright, stuff crammed on shelves, carpark is too small and the place is busy.

Think I'll stick with Waitrose...   (and the cost of a weeks shot was about the same because I mostly cook stuff myself, maybe *slightly* cheaper at Tesco 's but not a lot in it).

amen brother

Waitrose for teh win every time and its walking distance from my place

I dont get the whole tesco is cheaper, with todays pricing wars all the stores are within a few pence of each other. If anything tesco has become more expensive

Err, No.

No chance.

Waitrose may well be superior in quality and taste but there is NO WAY IN HELL that Waitrose is anywhere near the same price as Tescos.

Waitrose do good food but I couldn't justify spending that kind of money.

I'm really not fussy enough.

I have done the same shop in both tesco and waitrose and it has been within £1-£2 difference If your buying Branded, if your buying own brand then you might save more at tesco

Firstly.

I very rarely use branded stuff . . . except sauces and sometimes bog paper, bleach and washing up liquid.  Everything else I buy is own brand (not value / economy / basics) and does the job fine.

Money saved, more to spend on car parts.

Secondly.

This was originally a thread about Asda own brand pasties.  I didn't state that they were better then branded but I don't think I would be alone in saying that Ginsters (in this example) are over-rated and over priced.

Again, in this example, I'd rate Asdas own brand pasties over Ginsters any day.  I have had both, of course.

As with anything in life, I avoid brands.

I buy own brand clothes as my experience with expensive "labels" is poor.  I buy generally own-brand food as I believe it's proportionally (price : quality ratio) better then branded food.

It all comes down to who you are and how you approach life.

I personally feel happy wearing my £3 jeans and £2.50 T-Shirt to go to work in . . . I feel happy wearing my £6 jeans and £2.50 T-Shirt to go out in . . . I feel content coming home and having a Asdas own brand Pizza for dinner . . . and am very content eating own brand pasties for lunch over elborate home made or other alternatives.

I'm White Trash baby, yeeaaaahhhh !

I have to say the best place to get any meat is CostCo.  Supermarkets just dont have the same quality stuff.

I wonder if the CostCo bakery does slices  if they do i bet there full of angus steak

Costco's £3 tray of Danishes ftw!!!

Never bought their meat as I always buy fresh (and don't freeze it) so it's just too much in a pack for me on my own.
