So is it just the gasket that went?
The block and heads ok?
Not warped or cracked?

Are you able to tell if yours was a modified one or the old design?

no reason to suspect block or head damage, as the car wasn't overheated..

the fact it went sugests it was the old type gaskets, despite being the new type engine.. i guess they had some stocks of the old gaskets to use up..

some of the US forums sugest buying a mid 96 build to ensire the head gasket problems are well behind it... mine is a very late 95 build of the 96 model year...

yup, totaly different type of gasket.

update -

engine is back together and running, having the tranny fluid changed tomorrow (again) and she'll be ready.

yeah, but its all the other bits that add up - flush of the coolant system, flush of the oil system, had the tranny flushed though as well
