£60 ! - and still room for more !
« on: October 25, 2007, 06:56:51 am »
Got my wage cheque yesterday and was out of petrol in the Eldo so thought it'd be O.K to "fill her up" curtousy of the credit card (until cheque clears) . . .

Good idea I thought, so I pulled into BP where it's an "O.K" 97.7p a litre.

And I start filling . . . . . £20 . . . £30 . . £40 . . £50 . . . . .

Even the '58 finishes around £55 I thought . . .

£60.

At that point I had to stop.  I've never put that much in a car before !

Needless to say there was no gurgling from the tank so I'd say there was plenty of room for more.

Now I've just gotta hope there's no leaks in the tank . . . like that one time I filled up the '58 only to discover one.

Reminds me about the first time I filled up our white Dodge day van , I did exactly the same thing, kept looking underneath expecting to see it gushing out
Bearing in mind this was a couple of years ago it stopped at £110
Seems it had the longe range tank fitted

Mind you the Ambulance was good for £95 of Derv

hehehehe welcome to my world, I have to fill the merc up at least once a week at £70-75 a time.

I borrowed Jon Websters Dodge pickup - big HD version - at the last race meet to come hiome to collect my firesuit. I thought it would be courteous to put some diesel in it on the way back to the track so I stuck £30 worth in. It was on 1/2 tank when I started; it was coming up to, but not on, 3/4 when I finished

Like FBody I was looking for the hole in the tank underneath. When I got back to him he said that he only ever filled it up from empty once, when he first got it and the empty tank light was on, cost him £128!!! He said the F350 takes nearer to £150 to fill!!

I tend to run the STS right down until it sits on empty and I get "low range" in the driver information centre.  Low range means less than 40 miles range.  I then tend to drive it another 20 miles or so before pulling in for fuel so it is proper low. (no I don't know why I do this)
I've put about £63 in it this way before the fuel pump shut off.

I seem to remember it has an 18.5 (US) gallon tank so that would be 70 litres or the best part of £70 at todays prices.

I dont get people who don't fill the tank to the top.  I've never stopped before its full, theres just no point.

the only difference between putting £10/day or £50/week is the extra fuel you waist driving to the petrol station more often.

just fill it to the top each time and save yourself some time and money, thats my view.

just my

Dean, the jag you drove had a 89 liter tank. i remember that cost me a small fortune every time i filled it up, glad i dont have a gas guzzler any more...

that is suppose to be the best thing for the engine iirc, nice clean fuel all the time.

Well apart from the queues at the few remaining Luton petrol stations, I just can't be arsed to visit the pumps 3 or 4 times a week
More to the point whenever I see someone putting £5 or £10 worth of petrol in a car  I think " Peasant "

Well we have to maintain a certain level of Decorum

The pumps should be adjusted so they only deliver a minimum of £20

Mind you if the petrol prices keep going up at the present rate, £10 a gallon ain't that far off
