A mini site for the guys doing the HotRod magazine Power Tour has been setup at this url:

http://powertour.mkb.cc/

On there you will find information about the route, info about the car, dates etc and also there is a blog site which the guys will (hopefully!!) keep updated as and when they are preparing for the trip, on the trip and on the way home!

Any comments / suggestions please let me know: ian@mkb.cc

All sorted now, amazing what you can do with a 2x4 and a bottle jack

edit

Damn sway bar is a mission though as the lower control arms have to come off so its basicaly stripping the whole front end

Not sure they suit the car... I think smoothys look better on trucks or at a streach 50's or older cars...

tight fit

I did say wider wheels were a bad idea...

I, personally, agree - especially the truck part - but it's Graemey's ride.

Nah wider wheels are ever a bad idea when the car used tobe on skinny crossply equiveleants

Simply push the panel out, if you look at the pictures the cut outs are square so my simply placing a 2x4 along the inside of the arch and gently jacking against the otherside of the wheel well you can gradually create the space required to get clearance. Its an old hotrod trick, on modern cars they do a simaler thing using this

Now there is enough room to get your hand between the arch and the sidewall, and its hardly noticable from the original look of the car.

I personaly like smoothies on mid 50's and early 60's, my second choice on the catalina would have been a set of crager's but they were double the price. Baby moons would have been period for this car so smoothies were pretty close and let me go to a 15" rim

Next year i hope to be able to throw on an airride system but for this year my priority was handling and looks on a bdget. Mike says the sway bar i bought is twice the thickness of the old one so that with the new shocks should realy help control the roll of this old boat

I didnt pay a lot for it, from memory $3200, its worth a lot more than that as its pretty much all original, with only 2 keepers before me. Never been painted either and yet the paint is in great condition with only minimal rust.

I had thought about brining it home but now im thinking i will leave it in the USA and use it when i am out there for the next tour etc
