well i was thinking about a chevy small block 350 as there is a lot of bits about for them. Also I want it to do 13 secs at the pod as I am doing constant 15s at the minit with my currant race car ( MK2  escort 1700 cross flow . 10" rear slicks ). I dont know much about yank motors so much help needed.

Post by: 55starchief on February 24, 2006, 01:32:21 AM
this gonna be a pure race motor or a street strip?

ballpark figure for a 350 with tunnel ram and dual carbs with a new block from my guy would be around $5k that would be around 400hp

you can email him at the following address

www.outlawracingengines.com

remember to tell him your in the uk so he can up the comp ratio

Only cos the cars a mopar I don't know much about the performance differences between chevy and mopar...

Parts are probably cheaper and more available for the chevy block..
Title: my new ride
Post by: Roadkill on February 24, 2006, 04:40:33 PM
Go with MoPar - but no need for a big block - not unless you've got £££££'s to spend and want a drag car.

A 383ci would be the maximum you'd need in that.

Well the car will be a drag car with a mot. I am geting the back end tubed for the pro street look. I want to run 13s then work to get it faster as I get use to it . So I want a motor for around £2000 that I can progress with
Title: my new ride
Post by: philoldsmobile on February 24, 2006, 08:10:49 PM
what sort of numbers are you aiming for?

although their outright potential is limited, you can generaly run 10's with a big block (preferably 500 inch) caddyu engine..

although they are not powerful as stock, it doesn't  take much to wake them up, and they are unlikely to have had a hard life, so the bottom end generaly can be untouched - just a port job, intake manifold, hoofing great carb, cam and a set of headers - should come in well under £2000

hot rod did an article a while ago, where they bui9lt a pro street chevette, that  ran 10's for $1000 with a caddy motor..

provided you don't want to turn corners you're fine!

Post by: philoldsmobile on February 24, 2006, 09:32:26 PM
thats pretty much a given with any pro street mate - they dont do corners, and thats an understatment..

even stock big block muscle cars drive pretty badly, i drove a big block 68 camaro a while ago in NY, and to be honest, it handled like a drunken pig on a skateboard..

383 is considered a big block, as it's the same as a 413, 426 wedge, and 440 block. You can make some serious power with one, but they are expensive to build. Even here in the states. I would keep a Mopar in it, but that's just me. Maybe a SB like a 340 or 360 CID. In reality it depends on your budget, availability of parts, and what you want to do. A nice mild 350 SBC would fit nicely with what you want to do. AS far as tubbing, unless you just WANT the pro street look it may actually slow you down some at the 13 second level. I've seen cars go well into the 10s on slightly moddified stock suspension, and 10.5 inch tires.
Title: my new ride
Post by: ozzy on March 04, 2006, 01:35:18 AM
13 sec would be nice but if it wants to go faster then it can . I dont want it to stay at 13s. As I get faster so can the car. I could build it to do 9s but then i would just get bord and want to get rid of it. So this way I get to learn as I progress
Title: my new ride
Post by: Roadkill on March 04, 2006, 02:50:42 AM
Why not then start with just engine mods . . . . then, at a later date - upgrade to a pro-stock set-up . . . ?

i could but i have the cash at the minit so if its done it done if you know what i mean. plus if i have a good car to start with i can play with the motor more

Gotcha. (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif) So you're wanting you and the car to, in a sense, progress together in skill level. That's cool.
