How To Guides / Facebook linking
« on: July 11, 2016, 09:23:17 pm »
As you may notice, there's now a Facebook icon in the bar above the reply box (if using full reply, not quick reply!), all you need to do to show a Public FB post here, is click the button and paste the link to the post (right click the post and copy link).

Note that it needs to be a public post, not to a private / closed group, so for instance a photo status change is public, whereas a post to a secret / closed group isn't

So the link to the photo being changed by Su is (spaced so teh forum doesn't try to render it!):
h t t p s://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153512912100670&set=a.430119620669.231655.730425669&type=3

so click the FB button and paste, you get:

General Banter / New Tow Vehicle
« on: August 17, 2015, 08:18:06 pm »
Been looking for a replacement tow vehicle / second car for a while since we got shot of the Land Rover, and been looking at Jeeps mainly - went to see a couple and wern't impressed as they were definately not as descrived in the adverts (lacquer peel, tracking issues, air con problems, exhaust & coil spring issues etc etc), then came across the one we bought on Autotrader.

We have picked up last night, a '06 Mitsubishi Shogun Sport Warrior 3.0L V6 Auto.

It's got 129k on the clock so fairly high, but does have full service history and various receipts for some work, is due a service now but came with 12 months MOT on it.
Got a few scratches around the body, most of them look like with a good T-Cut & Polish should come out, driver's seat a bit worn but reckon with some leather food & a good clean it be OK.

Projects / MKB BBQ Tank Repaint
« on: May 27, 2015, 10:43:43 am »
Having used the BBQ for the Bashfest at the start of May, it's clear that the BBQ needed a re-paint on the tank at the minimum as it's showing signs of surface rust.

As it was:

(Rear was by far the worst bit)

So, this weekend i started the process - got a couple of wire wheels (one on the drill and one on grinder) and gave the tank a good going over to remove all the rust on it and smooth things out a bit.

Once that was done i masked off the shiny bits and started giving it a few coats of Matt black VHT Enamel BBQ paint, so it currently looks like this:

It's had 3 / 4 coats now so has a good covering, typically i had to change paint manufacturer half way through the last coat, so it's a bit odd at the moment as although they were both matt black enamel bbq paint - they are different shades, so it'll probably get another 1 or 2 coats of the new, darker paint to have just 1 colour and then i'll fire it up to cure it and see what it looks like after that!!

(New album in the MKB BBQ Gallery -? http://bbq.mkb.cc/gallery)

Projects / MKB BBQ Brake Refurb
« on: April 12, 2015, 07:27:22 pm »
Think this counts as a mini project now!!

Seeing as the tires on the BBQ are at least 10 years old and it's stood for almost 3 maybe 4 years now, and i'm intending on using it in May, thought today would be a good day (as weather was nice) to sort getting the wheels off to get new rubber on them, plus give the brakes and over-hall (as they never been brilliant and a bit squirelly when braking).

Took the wheels off without too much trouble, so the BBQ now sits like this:

Gave the underside a check over and it's held up really well, springs and chassis look all good underneath:

Once i'd got the wheels off, took the drum's off and the 'passenger' / left side didn't look too bad:

Shame can't say the same for the 'driver' / right side.....explains why the brakes wern't working as well this side:

Checked online and the bearings are nice and cheap and easy to get (as they are a bit graunching and knackered), need to just track down what the correct oil seal is as need new one's of them as well - the sizes online don't seem to link up with what the one i've got is.....

Going to try this week to track down a new set of shoes & drums and hope they are still available ( as the drum on the left is totally contaminated and has to be replaced!) - know of one place in MK that might do it (intertruck?)

So Shopping list to get it back on it's wheels:

Inner & Out Bearings
Inner Oil Seals (outers are just a flat washer)
Shoes
Drums
Tires

Will then put it back together then sort the wiring as needs looking at as lights not working correctly

Known problems / Posting Smilies
« on: March 01, 2015, 09:24:54 am »
From a post by FBody:

Secondly it's really hard to find the right Smiley and when you do nothing seems to happen when you click it, you only know it's been inserted when you close the Smiley page ?

Will work on this - will see if i can put the most used ones nearer the front so can keep it smaller and don't have to scroll any further

There is an oddity whereby posts made before migration aren't showing the Smiley's properly.

This is due to a formatting issue in the address that it points to, I'm working on the appropriate fix, but it's not an easy / quick one
