Ok Graeme,

You said it could be done to an older radio like we have.

How easy a job would it be for a normal person to do. ie not a sound expert.

Could this be done at home and what would you need.

Roadkill

Graemey reckons it's easy - I'd give it to him and let him do it.

Having had a quick look at a couple of radios it could be done by simply soldering a couple of wires onto where the tape head input is basically piggyback the input. On radios without a tape input it gets a little more tricky as you need to find a section of the circuit to add the input.

Titsy might have another way of doing it but this looks the easiest on the valve radios like mine and roadkills i can simply add a switch to bypass the radio output to the amp and add the input from an ipod/mp3 player

Sounds like this could be a FUN challenge to do then
Especially as I don't have an amp. (Adds to much weight )

What parts would I need anyway??  I'm not that up on Mp3s and Ipods

on the early radios pre 63 the unit was 2 parts the tunner and the amp section as it was all vacuum tube. The later radios used transistors so were a single unit much more compact

Ok where's best place to get Mp3 car bits adaptors whatever I would need.  At least I can work on my radio, will fit on the dinning room table

Have been surfing the web and have found a couple of company's that do radio conversions, so you can keep the stock look but get FM and inputs for CD IPod MP3 Sat radio, and even amp connections.  Am going to find out what the cost would be to get mine done.
