http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/ - browse their site, very good deals, but if you find something you like, always Google it as you can find it for a couple of £'s cheaper sometimes.

I have an Alpine unit (think it's the same as HRC's) which is brilliant. iPod connectivinty and 'voice dial' on the iPhone. It is about £170 though (bought in Feb this year) but I think it's worth it.

Considering its over 6 years old and Japanese spec

Andy

Wow, sorry to hijack CP, but the Alpine is upgradable with an inline amplifier brick that fits behind the head unit without any extra wiring!

Perfect, cheers Art, I think I'm in Northampton on Wednesday so I will take a look

I use mine everyday and it's brilliant for the money - I'd happily buy another one for my sister if they have stock..

Nice!

However, this is my sister's Ford Ka, she listens to the radio and Take That, so I don't think the extra power of the amp is required

Andy:  Interesting...  I decided not to fit an external amp as finding space in the Jeep is virtually impossible and I didn't want anything on show.  The sound is pretty good as it stands to be honest, but the Infinity speakers (just reference models) would probably benefit from that amp.  Can I be arsed though...

(well handy they used a TJ Wrangler to demonstrate the fitting, LOL!)

Andy

Well I've ordered one so I'll give you a review of it when it arrives tomorrow. Only problem I could have is that I have paper cones in the back so will need ANOTHER upgrade

I just like the idea that there are no other wiring requirements.

EDGE

no other wiring means no extra power is required, i wonder how good it can be just drawing power from the wiring loom, considering its probably on a 5A fuse...

HardRockCamaro

I think it was a 15A fuse, but then 4x45W=180W / 12V = 15A so that's about right.  The other issue is that I *guess* it's using the speaker level outs as opposed to a line out?

It probably won't be quite as good as a normal amp, but if it's a lot better than the on-board one then it's a good idea...

Andy

It's arrived! (btw, Sorry CP, this has gone completely it)

It looks so easy to install I'm gonna give it a bash tonight.

Q aimed at EDGE (or any other Ford'ers): Got any recommendations for 6x9 replacements in a Ford Door? Aim thinking with this of moving my Alpine 5x8 to the back doors and putting in some components in the front.

My set for sale, special deal for MKB peeps

Andy

Balls.

Both paper cones gone (were on their way out) and one of my Alpines popping. Will teach me to turn on the sound check.

Was test driving it to some Foo's (naturally) put it on shuffle and some dim distant bit of RnB came on and boom. Oh well!

Ian, can you measure the distance from the mounting face to the back of the magnet please.

I am after some components for the front though, some separate tweeters would sound awesome.

yup.........

about 8.5cm from the front side of mounting face to rear of magnet

Andy

Right, I'll measure up my Alpines tomorrow, see if they'll fit in the door.

I'm not 100% 6x9 go, but I then I might have to get a bit jiggy with the jigsaw lol!
