Jensen's Hot Rod Pedal Car - Finished !!!

We bought Alex one of those from Beulieu a few years ago, although ours has chrome spoked wheels.

He's hardly ever used it and it's more of an ornament in the conservatory now.

I loved my pedal car when I was a kid

Jensen seems drawn to things with wheels on . . . his favourite toys are a set of plastic cars my Mum brought.

So I'm hopeful.

If not, like you say, it'll make a good ornament.

I'm thinking satin black with red steelies . . . . Sort out a simple interior, bit of insulation tape around the steering wheel . . . . maybe even hook up the lights . .

What about a fake shifter that is really tall - oversized, that can also act as a handle for you to push him along with and control in busy traffic areas?

Could do - but there's no floor.  Would need cross-bracing.

It's probably gonna need a motor, too, as he gets older.

Being serious, you probably could with a little 2-stroke or a motor from a strimmer or something?

A bit OTT, IMO though.

There's actually a guy on the modded caddy forum building one of those . . .

Have a look - this guy is seriously talented - the work he's doing to his (real) car is incredible.

Here's his "stroller" project :

Picked it up last night.  Used, from eBay.

It's currently sitting in my office at work while I ponder what exactly I'm going to do with it.

Must admit, it's very good quality . . . . Better than I expected.

After watching a few on ebay I discovered that the older ones had spoked wheels that were harder wearing but more expensive . . . the manufacturer apparently decided to opt for the pressed-steel wheels (in the link at the top) that are cheaper but prone to buckling as they don't appear to have bearings.  Hence I went for an older one.

Also the older ones have the plastic seat part which the new ones do not.

Had a look at the front lights and reckon it's possible to fit a bulb holder in there (something the size of a christmas tree light) and have looked at small red lights on ebay, too.  Definately think I'll rig-up a simple lighting circuit for it - there's plenty of room "under the hood" for a battery box.

It's now been de-stickered, too.

Colour will be satin black.  D'uh.

Am considering fitting some zoomies - but that maybe a step too far.

EDIT - I want to powder coat the wheels red, too, but it'll depend on whether I can remove the tyres or not . . .
