Probably not relevant, but my Pop's petrol Mondeo went into Limp-mode when the catalytic converter had gone / blocked. That also pumped smoke out when you tried to rev it.

DTC came back with injectors, also there's no extra smoke being pumped out so probably not the Cat...this time.

anyone changed the fuel filter on their Mondeo?  I've read you need to prime with diesel..

Why do I have the feeling I'll be sucking on diesel this weekend

Nope, but I've always found YouTube useful for info-videos.

I'd be surprised if you could suck past the pump . . . I'd assumed as it's a high-pressure pump it wouldn't be that easy . . .

Filter comes before the pump, seems there's no pump at the tank end hence the need to manually prime or prefill the filter.

Especially as the pump uses the fuel as a lubricant so doesn't like running dry.

Ah, interesting.  What about getting one of those cheapie drill-attachments to pump/suck it ?

Not a clue how much they are but I can't image much.

I would think that you will need to reprime the system, although, unhelpfully, I do not know exactly how.



However, you can crack the pipe to injector 1 slightly off and crank it through until Diesel comes out without any air-bubbles. There will be Diesel in the system, then an air-lock where the filter has been changed, then Diesel.

I'll try an oil extractor pump first.

Seem you connect up the filter except for the centre pipe, attach a pump and suck/pump until the filter is full...or you can use a syringe or funnel and fill it from the top.

Apparently you should change the filter every 10K or so according to what I've read and the chap at the garage highly recommended changing it regularly.

I bought a filter around 30K miles ago but never got round to changing it, despite having done 2 services and replacing 2 injectors in that time . and who knows how long the current one's been on there

P.S As suspected it was the 2 remaining injectors so that's another £500 aka a months fuel expenses
