I've always thought I'd done pretty well with finding decent bargains for stuff I wanted for the Camaro.  My last 2 purchases in the past 2 months have been sensational.

1. The left rear wheel arch is starting to rust quite badly, and gone beyond a quick sand down, treat and paint.  I'd decided to look at costs for getting a new panel shipped in (no one here will stock them).  $80 for the panel isn't bad I thought, but then due to size I'm looking at $3-400 for shipping

Two weeks on, the exact panel I need comes up on ebay - £120 collect from Coventry - result  In the 7 years of daily checking ebay for camaro parts, this is the 1st one of these I've seen, and wouldn't surprise me if it's the last...

2. That one was both lucky in finding and value, but the next one has proved to be even better.  A few years ago, guy in Stoke had bought a bunch of suspension upgrades for his '70, never got round to fitting any of it and has had a change of mind. It's all gone on ebay, at unbelievable prices, either the guy didn't know what he was selling or has incredibly deep pockets.
In short, I bought -

- QA1 coil-over shock kit, includes springs to fit stock arms and Double adjustable shocks Value - $600 + $165 shipping
- Addco upgraded sway bars, front and rear Value - $350 + $230 shipping
- And finally, the showpiece - Baer Claw track kit - 13" drilled and slotted rotors, silver powder coated 4-pot calipers (Corvette), fitting bracket and pre-modified spindles (advertised as 2" drop, but actually stock ) - Value - $2500 + $300 shipping

Total price paid - £460, including postage  I'm a happy bunny.

All I need now is to find a similar deal on some 17" wheels so that I can use the brakes.

Ask and you shall receive - I am definitely on a roll now.

I found a guy selling 2 sets of fronts from a C5 Corvette (so they are all the same size, unlike a full Corvette set) - £112

Now I need some chunky wheel adapters and some tyres.

And maybe not

Looks like the seller is going to ignore all attempts at communication. Checked his seller rating (after the sale ) and he has history of it.

Still, I have his name, address, home, work and mobile numbers, so I'll just keep pestering him.

Titsy

Looking at his feedback he clearly doesn't know how to set a reserve... Idiot...

Rob

I've taken the stance with this kind of seller before of reminding them that you have entered into a legally binding contract by bidding on his item.

Sometimes it works. Worth a go

I'm going to try that, although I have read that this 'contract' isn't legally enforceable in the UK.

I'm working my way through a fair process - email through Ebay, messages on phone number provided by Ebay, Email address given by Paypal, messages to home/work phone (found relatively easily with the help of Google )  All to show that I have taken reasonable steps before getting heavier.

I'm planning to threaten (and probably go through with), reporting him to eBay, ISP and Police regarding Internet Fraud.  Going to give him notice of intended actions through email, phone message, snail mail and also on his Company's Facebook page - nice bit of publicity for them

Mmm, a positive development.

Still not had any contact from him, but I did speak to his wife.  He's off abroad, so she's put me in contact with his brother.  I'm assuming he knows nothing about any plans to ignore me, as we've arrange for collection next week (before the other guy gets back )

Oooh the sneakiness. Love it.

1 set of C5 wheels now sitting in my garage.

They've got quite a bit of corrosion on the inside, so will need a good clean up. Still good for the money though.

Not too sure what C5 wheels will look like on a second gen though.

Jamieg285

I've struggled to find many examples (maybe a bad omen in iteslf?) This one's an earlier model than mine, with the big bumpers:

Note that those wheels are the satin silver finish, whereas the ones I have are  shiny chrome. (And I'll be removing the Corvette logos, possibly adding something else?!?)

Bit of (very) quick photoshop trickery:

Hmm.  Looks alright.  I'd need to see it in the flesh.

Jamieg285

Not sure how soon that will be

I've got to find a supplier (and funds) for some meaty 2" wheel spacers to be able to get the back space right before they can be used.
