Not car or garage or even shed-related but, still -

After building the "Uber Shed" and then the "Shed II" I was left with the last corner of the garden "untouched".

It'd been penciled in to be all-sorts but ended up being a raised seating area with a bench swing . . . With the addition of the sheds, the lack of structure in that corner looked wrong so I began thinking . . . . . . .

I wasn't happy with it being raised as I was conscious I was higher than the fence line when standing up (I have a hate of nosy people and didn't want to be seen as one myself)  :P

So, what to do ?

The first job was to dig.  Dig out, back to ground level while I decided . . . . the first lot of earth was transferred into projects in the front garden, making a dent on things but with the good weather starting to show I went at it last week and completely cleared and leveled the area.

As usual, there's alway more mud than you think, so I'm now left with this in the garden until I'm ready to get rid of it (I'll need some back, later).

The plan is to produce a round patio area, surrounded by raised beds to suit the rest of the garden.  It'll feature a custom-build garden pagoda to provide some shelter and be designed primarily as a small area to sit with a (home made) beer or wine.  It'll also be an ideal spot to house a BBQ in summer as the rest of the garden is gravel and BBQ-unfriendly.

Just something else to distract me from my cars.  :smirk:  All part of a bigger picture for the house and one of my immediate priorities.

No, they were all buried in the areas what are now Shed I & Shed II !!!

I did find bits of wall tile from the bathroom and bits of concrete from the very first garage floor slab !!

Found some time to progress this a little bit . . . been spending money like it's going out of fashion recently so have dialed it back a bit this month . . currently doing cheap or free jobs only . . . this one's fairly cheap.

Got the area leveled and swept (I added some more wooden pegs for a height reference after this photo was taken)

Concrete slab which'll form the base for a round patio area.  Note the 3 protruding cardboard tubes . . .

Tubes removed and holes filled with soil.  These will be partly for drainage and partly to allow plant roots to grow through (It'll make sense later on).

The damp/stained patches in the photo was where I'd hand-mixed some mortar to bed in some patio slabs on an outside step I finished off over the weekend.

Next stage means spending more money so I'm switching back to another project (which I already have materials for) for this week . . .

It's not gonna be too exciting I'm afraid, just somewhere I can drink beer, BBQ meat and smoke cigars in relative peace.

After a week of creosoting it was ready for the first stage in assembly.

Ian popped over on Saturday to lend the much needed second pair of hands . . .

No pictures (yet) but it's taking shape.

Yeah, it looks a bit sterile like that . . the purpose of the trellis panels is to encourage neighbouring ivy plants to grow up and over . . . Until then it'll look a bit like a tetris prison.

The lid is on the raptor cage . . . I thought this might make it look more like a prison but it, IMO, is now looking how I'd imagined.

There's more to come, but the next job tonight is to fix it to the concrete slab . . . I've ordered the patio which I'm hoping arrives before the weekend.

Update !

I had the basic "cage" finished last time . . . .

Next up was the entrance side panels . . . . Then the posts (and holes) that'll secure them . . . .

Then the concreting of said posts . . . .

Leaving me with the completed "footprint"

Then the round patio kit went in on the cast slab . . . . Then the steel ring that's the retaining wall for the earth . . . . Then some earth . . .

Then the modification of the existing raised beds to meet the new bits (using any old crap I had laying around)*

* The observant will notice the original ally door cards I had cut for the Camaro, cut up and used to retain the mud !!!

Then I fitted the log roll to the steel ring and ally bits, topped-up the mud, added the weed liner and put the stones on top . . .

It's a nice quiet corner in what's a (now) relatively small back garden . . . just need to finish it off and get a table so I can sit out with a beer and cigar next summer . . .

Next job is to do the pointing on the patio . . .

I've been recently inspired to make my garden cool . . . as a result, the "raptor cage" is being re-purposed (slightly) . . .

I won't bother with regular updates, just post pics when it's done.
