Rocky

Need an everyday car, would prefer a yank but cant be too much on fuel as im commuting further now,If i cant find one i may be getting a Jap car (skyline)

Roadkill

Aren't Skylines stupid for fuel, too . . ?

All that Bhp comes from somewhere . . .

Rocky

The twin turbos arnt too bad as it mixes the air and fuel better and you hardly need to plant your foot which helps where im driving, lots of hills so seems to make my other halfs fiesta struggle

Roadkill

Aren't you Leighton Buzzard way ?

Rocky

Yep i have to go into Hemel along that crappy road,Do you know what a 3.1 v6 firebird is like on fuel as id rather have a yank but cant spend too much as i have too many cars already, just really bored of driving boring cars

Roadkill

The Third gen V6's were bloody awful for economy as far as I know.

The fourth Gens 3.4 and 3.8 should see 30+ MPG . . .

ianjpage

Vicky's 4th gen is her daily car and that seems to be fairly reasonable on MPG - i use the cobra daily and todya have clocked 100 miles up on 1/4 tank - tank is about 45-50 quid to fill so it aint too bad!!

philoldsmobile

perfect foryou rocky...

green 4th gen V6 near the top of the page.. i've seen the car, would be ideal...

philoldsmobile

my mustang V6 is returning 33 - 34 mpg on average, and i drive everywhere with the air con on..

camaro's make a little more power, and are about the same on fuel.

philoldsmobile

if you decide on a skyline, speak to me....

HardRockCamaro

Skylines suck on fuel, don't kid yourself.
My neighbour has one (R33 GTS) and he recons it's heavy on fuel.

Problem is, turbos use more fuel than similar power N/A cars as they run slightly richer to get some cooling effect from the additional fuel.
If you stay off the boost you'll be fine, but if you do that it's hardly gonna move and thus will be boring.

Having always owned Turbo cars the only way to get the economy is to drive it on boost. Everyone used to tell me that drivinf sensibly would get a better economy so one month I did and i was 35 miles shorter on a tank, also turbo cars need to run super unleaded. Again my SAAB 9-3 as an example, before i sold it super was over £1 a liter down here so i started to fill up on regular and found that i was almost 50 miles short on regular BP and 65 miles short on tesco's shite all in all false economy

philoldsmobile

there is no free peformance..

a skyline will suck the juce in a big way, unless you get the non turbo version, then whats the point?

my brothers leon cupra (1.8 20v turbo) is thirstier than my mustang!!

Rocky

Ive owned Skylines, supras, etc and they are not too bad i have also had turboed fords which are rubbish, got mates with porsches, ferraris etc which are rubbish on fuel,my BMW is the best car i own on fuel it hardly moves on the gauge and its faster than my camaro

philoldsmobile

what engine is in it?

Rocky

Its a 325i but was developed by BMW only 24 built was my first car and will never get rid of it, I put a reiger kit on it and resprayed it,just done an M3 suspension and brake conversion so i can run bigger rims but its been off the road more than on due to other project.

philoldsmobile

ahh..

was gonna say, a friend of mine drives an 87 325i, and it goes fairly well, but not as quick as my camaro was..

philoldsmobile

if you want fuel eficcient and reliable, how about a mercedes 190E diesel?

slow as hell, but they never break..

Rocky

Yeah i always loved driving it does 0-60 in 5 secs and i have had it up to 155 with plenty left.None of the rolling road guys could work out why it was so quick,
Anyway just had an email back from a guy with a 3.1 V6 firebird he says he uses £30 every 40 odd miles so i would have to spend that daily and thats on the motorway.
Also a bloke with a skyline reakons my camaro would be cheaper on fuel as he has moddified engine, but wike HRC says its not worth having one unless its quick

Also dont really want a 4th gen

philoldsmobile

£30 every 40 miles? thats about 5mpg!!!

HardRockCamaro

A friend of mine just bought a brand new Focus ST.
24mpg overall and has 220BHP (or thereabouts) 2.5L Turbo Volvo engine.

Caddy has 300BHP out of 4.6L and does 22 overall on journeys similar to his at same sort of speeds.

Turbos = much suck.

Rocky

Whats a C5 Vet like due to the fuel injection system on them better than an Iroc? I would like a Caddy CTS is it? the little one but they are megga money at the mo
