Very sweet.

But the 318ci plant's gonna be too thirsty.

And with a LPG conversion - it's gonna put it beyond my budget.

dont LPG a carb'd motor, its a PITA...

to switch fuels, you have to stop, rev to about 2k rpm, then flick the switch.. as the petrol suply is stopped, you still need to burn the fuel in the float bowls, while also chucking LPG down the carb, this creates a very rich condition for about 30 seconds (this is why you need to rev to 2000 - it prevents it stalling as it boggs). also, as you are effectively running the float bowls dry each time, they are barstewards for picking up crap into the jets..

the only LPG systems worth fitting are the OBDII compliant multipoint systems like the prins system on dads tahoe, they are simply superb, with no noticable change in peformance power or drive, they also self swich to gas when appropriate, and will switch back to petrol if you run out of gas.

these state of the art systems aren't cheap however, typiclay costng about £2500, or if you need the remote injectors like the tahoe does, a wallet melting £2700

Assuming LPG is roughly a third the cost of petrol and 20mpg, you're looking at driving about 35k miles before you break even....

sounds like a rather impractical conversion..

the changover between petrol and gas is the worst bit, but you loose notable ammounts of power with the vapor ring systems, direct injection looses typicaly less than 1% as opposed to about 10%

when we dyno'd the avalanch (same LPG system as dads tahoe) it made 292 bhp on petrol and 291 on gas, also there was no gas BBQ smell following the car around (as there isn't with the hoe)

the multipoint system is actualy the second system fitted to the hoe, the first one was a £1600 vapor ring system, (impco) similar to the system used on carbs.. nasty doesn't even begin to describe it, hence the reason dad forked out another £1100 to have the multipoint system fitted (fortunatley the place that fitted it only wanted the difference in cost between the two systems)

Works like a charm and this aint no soft roader either. This guy competes in interferance of roading events. Its a early 70's body with a 4.2 vogue engine the su carbs no longer have needles just the slides and it runs and fires first time every time
