Parking space sorted !

£15 per month to park the Panda on next doors drive 24/7 and the Trans Am can go in front of the front door

3.2 V6 Frontera sorted from work for towing duty , just need to measure Jamie's wheels on Sunday to check there no more than 63 " wide and will fit the trailer I want to borrow

I love it when a plan comes to together

Err, that's only 5' 3".

I'd guess more like 73", not 63" . . . .

Also if it is a poncho motor its gonna make more TQ than a cheby lump and i can easily get hold of some tune up parts

looks like its a poncho motor to me, but it could also be an oldsmobile motor as that was about the time they changed to the 403 olds..

both were badged as 6.6 so i'm guessing the 400 badge on the cowl is a) non origional or b) its the ponch engine...

FWIW, stock the 400 ponch isn't a powerhouse, and the 403 olds is even less so...

in fact, the 1/4 mile is within 1/2 a second of a mustang V6, and the 0 - 60 is slower
google returned 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 400:  0 - 60 9.8   1/4 16.8

nice find, and a great looking car..

Rear wheel measurements.

Outer edge-Outer edge = 70"

Outer edge-Wheel arch = 3" per side.

Therefore, my guess on this other one is 76"

I can lend you a 3rd space saver it it helps (for the front)

Wrong

the 1977 TA came with a 400/403 as standard and the T/A6.6 as an option

they made 68,745 trans ams in 77 out of a total 155,736 firebirds

the 403 is the oldsmobile engine.. 400 or 403 are both generalised as 6.6, and  the 403 was never badged as such, wearing T/A 6.6 badges instead.. that is why the 400 badge sugests to me its probably not the oldsmobile engine, unless its a 400 decal someone put on there for the hell of it..

the last of them had the 403 olds engine, and was cirtainly available in 79

the T/A 6.6 was a totally different model stick to your 3rd gens and leave the pontiacs to them that know

Just spent my first three hours working on the TA

Prop shaft is off :

But the old girl still wouldn't budge
Took off the near side drum and it was fine with good looking shoes :

Found the problem on the off side with the drum being almost welded on
Time to bring out " Black Beauty " !

The shoes and drum have grooves about 10mm deep in them :

Once I could actually move her away from the wall I finally got to she her rear end - nice ass

Also found a Haynes and a Chiltern workshop manual in the boot :

After lying under her tonight she seems to be pretty solid , one of the rear wheel nuts is stripped but the tyres look sound.
After reviewing all the paperwork I reakon she was last on the road just over four years ago.

The plan now is to have her "recovered" home on Wednesday morning for £40

Ooh, can I borrow 'Black Betty'?  One of my drums is wedging itself on around the center.  Got it off once to re-do the internals, but I can't get it off again to see if the adjusters are working.  Once off, I'll take the file to it to give a bit more clearance.

Black Beauty ! Zoe named it after painting it with the only spray paint I had which was black.

Pop round anytime Mate it's in the back of the GMC.

Safety First :

You may have noticed that a use a very long extension bar when tightening it up , that's because some dodgy geezer did the welding ( yep me ).
So in the unlikely event of a weld failing it's less likely to hit you in the face
