Anyone know where to get Nitto or BFG drag radials from???

Looking for either a supplier in the UK or the US.

I'm looking for some 315/35R17's

Either:

-BFG G-Force T/A Drag Radial

or

-Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial

You using these for the strip or everyday tyres? Personaly i wouldnt run drag radials as everyday tyres. They are a very soft compound and prolonged driving will cause heat buildup and blistering of the casing which could result in delamination.

Will be for street, although I don't actually drive the car every day.

Most of the guys in the US seem to run them daily so I wouldn't have thought it should be an issue.

I run Michellin Pilot Sport Cup tyres on my TR7 and when it was my DD used to go to Colchester and back a few times each week, the tyres always seemed to hold up ok.

Danny at Adrenaline Race and Performance (based in Rushden) sells Nitto drag radials and I'm sure can get any other brand you're after.

Up to you mate, personaly i would look at some yokohama's they have a street legal slick that the lotus elise run and are DOT approved

to be legal over here the have to be E marked.. the bfg's and nittos are not...

Thats because they are a road race tyre with a tread wear of 80 and traction of AA and temp of A

Drag radials have a 0 tread wear and traction of B and temperature of C

Sounds good in principle and I would agree. Except that the A048's like on the Elsie aren't made in any where near that size.

The A032's are available in 275/40R17's but at £270 EACH + VAT

I've seen the BFG Dr's in 315/35R17 for only $173 each Stateside.

Also I'm after the softer side wall that Dr's offer.

But I do hear what you are saying I just find it odd that so many guys in the US run them on DD's, even in places like Texas where 90* in the summer is considered cool.

Still you may prove me wrong yet, lol

DOT is that US or UK?    

I always thought it was US, and there was a different (as I now now 'E' mark) for the UK.


I had DOT legal tyres on the sprint car, but I would be amazed if they were road legal over here.

i would be looking for a low tread wear indicating a soft compound rather than running a drag radial.

The A032's are available in 275/40R17's but at £270 EACH + VAT is

probably cheaper than the old bill giving you a pull and a £250 and 3 points per wheel for ilegal tyres also remember that if you have an accident your insurance would also be invalid.

Its not the ambient temps mate its the temperature of the casing which you would need a pyrometer to measure. Heat is built up by the tread blocks moving. Much like when you run a wet race tyre on a drying track.

Or to put it another way, you could but the drag radial and run it, but you'd need to change it for new ones a hell of a lot earlier than a legal tyre, which in turn increases your running costs.

Go for the nittos for every day use, they'll last a lot longer than the bfg's and you won't notice much difference in terms of wear over a normal street tyre - unless you go everywhere at warp speed 9!

Failing that you might want to try M&H, they do a block treaded drag radial but in limited sizes

A tyre doesn't need to be E marked to pass an MOT which is what determines whether its legal to drive on.

If you tell them you occasionally break the speed limit they'd probably refuse to cover you too, are you going to tell them that??

Thought not.

If the tyre is street legal at the time of a claim the insurance company can't kick it out as long as it has the minimum speed rating for the car.
 
The bfg's are really too soft for daily use, unless you own a tyre depot

the KDW's are a good choise if you decide against drag radials;   the bfg drag radial's are really too soft for daily use, unless you own a tyre depot;

Even more so as when I went out to the car on Sunday I found I had a flat and screw stuck in the rear tyre :(
