1958 Cadillac Wheels - What do you reckon ?

What I want is simple.

I Want everyone to say what wheel and tyre combo they think will look the t!ts on the Caddy.

Include wheel diameters you reckon etc . . . type of tyre . . .

I Only want to do this once so I want to get it right !!!

BTW, the current tyres are perished and unsafe so I've managed to persuade myself that the logical solution is new wheels, too.

Definately nothing too Big or Bling, low profile tyres would just look so wrong.

Tyres, White walls?

I would go with a classic look, 15" with white walls maybe a coker tire with a 3 1/2" white sidewall.

Im guessing your not gonna be draging it, or wanting to put big brakes on her?

maybe a classic smoothie, or TQ II or even Steels with moon caps

Well that was the extent of my knowledge on the subject but Graeme went into further detail...

Noope, not dragging (much).

I'll run her to get some times, but that'll be about it.

Yup, but wheels.

Eg. Pop on to Northants tyres website and have a butcher's at their stuff they supply.

Tyres wear out and can be changed - But the wheels are the important bit !!!

i think she'd look nicer on white band rather than white wall..

white wall are really earlier than the caddy, typicly they look right on late 40's / early 50's cars IMHO

plus they are extremely high maintainance, and look utterly crap when dirty.

Good point.

Full white wall were popular on the Early 50's Caddy's,
White Band were more a 60's thing . . .

So we're probably looking for a happy medium.

I Think Smoothies look great on 40's & 50's pick-ups also on 40's cars (like Willy's).

Not sure they'd look the part on the Caddy, though.

white band would be much easier to keep clean, and probably cheaper, too

i believe sinton do white bands for about £70 each inc vat.

for size, i'd imagine something around 235 60 15 or similar would be a good starting point, perhaps a little larger..

IIRC the wheels arent huge on the caddy, are they?

cragar SS's would probably work nicely, again, correct late 50's early 60's era

also, being chromed steel, they aren't that expensive.

i'd look at north hants tyres, cokers are all well and good, but if you damage a tyre, having to wait for one from the US would be a PUTA, so something that could be next day courierd in the UK would be much better..

Caddy rims are 15" Stock size.

Good point with the tyre availability factor . . . .

so yeah, i'd start looking around 235 width, and got for a reasonably high profile...

Not bad.  £126 each.

(I'm thinking 15x7's)

something around 235 60 15

Maximum I'd say.

I Think stock rims are 15x6 or 15x7.

Maybe then a 215-235 ?

Problem with width is getting the wheels on the back.

The skirts are non-removeable so it normally required deflating the tyres to get the wheels on !!!

Not so much of a problem.  But those skirts are VERY low, so I think it'll still be an issue - just no where near as bad.
