I want to get a slight ding and scrape on Mel's 328i Touring sorted out without breaking the bank, and wondered if anyone knows of a good reliable bodyshop in the Beds/Herts area that I could use?

Doesn't have to be yank friendly of course and I'm not looking to spend a lot on it. Just dress it up a bit with some new paint and knock the ding out.

Many thanks.

I know of one in Leighton Buzzard.

The chap is called Mick, he's got a C5 Vette and also had a z/28 last year and loves American cars.

He painted my TR7 V8 and my XJ-S and also my brothers Land Rover V8.

He is generally pretty good on price and if asked will deal in cash ;)

Tell him Matt with the red TR7 and Camaro recommened him.

They're just round the corner from my work !

Why have I not heard of them before !!??

May take a gander over there one day.

And why doesn't he come to our meets . . .

Come on 300BHP . . . your not spreading the gospel.

Giblets

Thanks mate!

Might give them a look if I can't find better closer to Hitchin.

Seems a shame taking a repmobile to a place that would really appreciate the IROC!

Pretty sure he's been to a meet or two. As he orignally told me about you guys, however this was when you used to meet on a different day, in the evening I think.

Ahhh . . . . May be an idea to pop over at some point and let him know we've moved . . .

Will do. Sure he'll be up for it once the better weather sets in anyhow.

May enquire about having the Caddy's (shell) sprayed over the winter  . . .

Roadkill

Hmm, small world.

Seems our Admin lady here has had alot of paint work done by them for her and her husbands car.

More recommendations . . . .

Definately gonna be letting them have a look at the Cadillac.

BTW, apparently they're looking to move into new premises, just across the road this year . . . .

Rocky

Is it a teal green LT1 as i saw one the other day

DanC

Probably a bit far for you, but D & F Crash Repairs, have been excellent for me in the past. they are based by DaimlerChysler HQ, near willen in MK.

took my Dodge over ther to get a quote for taking out scrathes etc, they even pointed out minor bumps they would get out as well.

Not bad Rocky.

Two small dents on the rear arch and some scratching, plus scratching on the bumper that just needs paint.

Fancy a pop at it?

I'm not looking for a concours finish here.

I will take a pic and post it here tomorrow.

yep there are some pics in the link on his website.

Nice looking car although I think Mick has had a lot of gearbox issues with it.

Give us some pics mate, How quick do you need it doing i have a TA in at the mo which is stripped further than mine for a bare metal and re-build so should go out better than GM did it. So obviously thats eating all my time up at the mo.

I'll post a pic tomorrow mate.

Not an urgent job to be fair but would like it done before Easter. Can you get a paint match OK?

Giblets

Here ya go Rocky

What do you reckon?

Rocky

I should think a bodyshop will do the whole rear quarter, the black plastic bit would need replacing as it isnt painted if you wanted, Its not a bad repair but i just dont have the time at the mo and wouldnt want to let you down getting it back for Easter. But i recommend you dont take it to a large bodyshop that churns out the cars as the work wont be as good, Small ones with the right equipment will do you a better job. Just email me if you need any advise etc.

Giblets

Thanks mate.

Gonna get a quote today from a bodyshop in the next village (Shillington) with the instruction that we need a CHEAP fix as insurance won't be involved.

If they quote me hundreds I'll probably just leave it. I'm not paying for a new rear quarter for a minor scuff like that.

Under £200 and I'd get it done.

I'd guess Rocky meant they'd spray the whole rear quarter as there's no obvious trim lines or indents to help hide a partial blow-over.

As far as the trim goes . . . Just gently file or sand the sharp raised parts around the scratches and then back-to-black the trim.

It won't be perfect but chances are unless someone is specifically looking they won't spot it.

As long as it's shiny with decent looking wheels people tend not to check for details.

Giblets

You mean 'back to black' the trim right?

Good call, I might do that.

That's what I said.

Rocky

A normal bodyshop will find it easier to do a panel as blow-ins are quite tricky to do, As there a 3 scuff/dents it would be more cost effective to do the quarter. Paint alone with primer etc will be around £50
