Any recommendations or suggestions?

I figure I want a like for like(ish) 3 wire GM/Delco, but might as well go for an output upgrade.

Are they all pretty much the same or are there some that are better than others?

i would go for a single wire job, nice and easy to hook up, i got a 160amp from jegs

What's the difference?  From the wiring diagram, 2 red wires go to the same place anyway.  But the 3rd feeds the volt meter.

How does going to 1 wire improve things?

I think the location of the wires is just moved out of site.  I've never set one up, so i'm not for sure

Roadkill

Someone (HRC ?) on the AACI (main) has just put a thread a day or so ago re. this.

On the Camaro & F'Bird section.

Yup.

Ok looks like windows decided to change my internet settings

Ok so why did i choose a single wire.

I dont have an ignition light, nor does deans caddy

I dont have a water pump driven by a belt, mines electric.

No one had a 160A unit over here any way so i got mine from jegs.

Plain and simple, if your car already has an Alternator stick with a 3 wire if it doesnt go with a single.

As for sensing, i have digital guages telling me everything going on with my motor, if the water pump stops the guage tells me. Also i have an ammeter which is wired in series with the battery telling me my current draw i dont need to know voltage.

I think it's got a "GEN" light, though.

OK, I think I know which model I want, but there's a choice (same price)

Polished vs Chrome

What's the pro's and con's of each?

Polished vs Chrome

both shiny

polished can tarnish quickly, but IMHO looks nicr with a softer sheen than bling bling chrome..

i dunno if it fits second gens, but there is an uprated alt for thirdgens, so when mine dies (must be due soon, surely) i'll go to us auto and simply ask for the uprated alt for an 86 thirdgen.

screw all this "one of these might fit.." headache..
