.... suddenly and without warning, in a big cloud of smoke on the M1 at 75mph.

suspect - head gasket....

so....... to keep me mobile (and MASSIVE thanks to shifty) i have picked up a lexus GS300 - 94 on an L reg.

bit rough around the edges, but seems to start drive and run fine. now currently debating weather to fix and sell the alfa, or sell the lexus when the alfa is fixed..

same, because the alfa is an absolutely sublime car...

Bummer

fix and sell the alfa

- its a shame but the money its cost, and it seems to be a re-occurance of the mustang syndrome....one thing leads to another to another .....

Roadkill

Jo

Lol sounds familiar ...... mine was not quite so spectacular tho

philoldsmobile

word around the campfire on the alfa forum is that its likely a piston has let go..

if thats the case, ts being sold for spares or repairs..

Roadkill

That rattling heard on the hard-shoulder certainly sounded that way . . .

Yup i would agree with that one, if it was head gasket the temps would have rocketed but a piston letting go would just smoke and the car would loose power

philoldsmobile

thats exactly what it did....

plus the smoke looked more blue than white to me..

I have sympathy

thank you glad someone has, these bastids just took the piss!!

Roadkill

It did suck the water out of the water tank though - so you may be lucky . . .

Take the p!ss, yes.  But we've all said we sympathise - just not to your face as you need punishing for the whole buying an Alfa thing !

It's bad luck, mate - no one's denying that.

Hmm, also true.

That would be worst case, though . . .

FUBAR

whatever happens it sux you haven't had much luck with your cars lately m8
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

55starchief

Very sensible mate, pulling the head= can'o'worms with that car

philoldsmobile

i dunno what happend... 12 years with literally nothing more than a blown bulb here and there, then this...

Roadkill

Being a little hasty aren't you ? - I'm not saying keep it but at least check what the deal is first . . .

I personally wouldn't waste anymore time, let some one else do it that way its their problem not yours

HardRockCamaro

Yeah we all took the pi$$ but that was inevitable.

In reality we do sympathise as we wouldn't wish the financial inconvenience on anyone.  First the Mustang now the Alfa...

It's also a shame they sold o few as stripping it for spares is not likely to be too fruitful what with so few possible buyers?

The Lexus is boring and to be honest doesn't strike me as prestige/luxury but *should* be more reliable.  I certainly wouldn't keep the Alfa if it can be fixed. I know clutches can go on any car, I know pistons/gaskets can let go on any car, I know screen backlights can go on any car and whanot.  But seriously the car is living up to its reputation by racking up more than its fair share.

Personally I'd keep the Lexus, sell off the Alfa and use the money from it to fix the Mustang.  And frankly I'm still of the opinion that your latest issue has *probably* come about from the previous repair work.
I'd get the Mustang fixed and then sell the Lexus.

At least the Mustang is interesting, has low mileage and an excellent body.

Gator

bummer and i do mean that mate

its all gone wrong since you sold the 3rd gen

Fieldy

wow, I am speechless

*edit* - Not because the Alfa broke down again, I can believe that, it is living up to its name....But I am speechless because of your luck, sorry dude....

If you took A bus right now it'd probably break down too!
