It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Roadkill

It always makes me wonder when someone announces that they've had enough of "The scene".

Does that really mean that they've had enough of the cars ? - Or the Scene ?

If it's the scene why get rid of their car(s) ?

Just me I guess.

I don't like the scene, either - it's gone sour over the last few years . . .

However.
You won't see me flogging my Camaro . . . and certainly not the Cadillac, because of it.

Incursus

Indeed i'm in it for the cars!  you lot can go to hell for all I care

HardRockCamaro

Indeed.

I don't have much to do with "the scene" nowadays, I don't go to any shows and hardly any meets.  I've not even bothered with Santa Pod for over a year...

But I've still got my cars as i like 'em.

I dunno m8... next year could be very different judging by the conversations that have been going on around BBQ's & over Bottles of beer at the events i've been too.

It will still cost an arm & a leg to camp at Billing though

If i never bothered surfing the forums or posting on them, i would still have a yank as far as i can tell.....

It's a shame, but good luck....

I'm speechless

philoldsmobile

philo's matra no1 "its rustier than it looks"

its a sad sight, but predictable, these were mass produced, cheap cars, never intended to last very long, cheaply made from poor quality materials, its done well to last that long

you wont see modern cars like that in the future. galvanizing almost across the board means nothing rusts anymore, even lancias alfas and fiats, cars are now scrapped when their upkeep becomes too expensive, or when their emissions deem them obsolete

i believe this will be one of the single biggest cause of cars being scrapped in the near future, and a complete oxymoron, as making a new car is the most polluting part of its life, thus replacing a working car with a new one is more polluting than continuing to run the existing one.

Actually I thought he was talking about the Alfa...

Roadkill

I actually agree with PhilO's comments, there.

U.S cars produced in the 70's were made from some of the crappest materials available . . . .

It was a period inbetween the old fashioned "Make it last for ever" thinking of the 50's and 60's and the "Using modern techniques" methods of the late 80's and 90's -

I'm impressed that my Camaro hasn't got more grot, TBH . . .

Shifty

Nah, once you peeled back the outer layer that car was rotten as a pear,

Rocky

Car was not worth even thinking about repairing too far gone completly bodged up. Only worth it for what Graeme was going to use it for.
Rot in nearly every panel. Had 3 rear quarter panel sections welded over each other. and every panel has filler in it.

Cunning Plan

You think that is bad?  Looks fairly solid to me minus some cutting and welding around extremities...  Thats nothing really compaired to what the dub guys are getting involved with:

If they can do it with an old bus Im sure the TA could have been sorted..  Saying that, if thats what he wanted to do with his car then thats his choice.  I know ive split up a few cars that could of had a few more quid put into them to make them all good but unless you are totally sure you still want the car its pointless to keep putting that cash into it...

wow that didn't take you long on the TA!!!

The later third gens (87 on?) are galvanised *I think*, at least in places anyway.
