Crap name I know, we will rename it suitably if required...

Anyway, what do you guys think?

This is a paid plugin (although only $10) for the the forum that adds a sort of 'unread posts' functionality and a couple of other features.  Not sure exactly how well some of it will work with our forum, especially the 'preview' option on some of the longer threads.

Anyway, you can see it in action on the miniBB site (link at bottom of page) you will need to register on there before you see the miniBB option in the top menus. (Where out PM's one is)

was looking at this last night mate, for £5 might be worth getting even if you hack the code at a later date

Jamie, what was the decision on this plugin?

I think it would be handy for those members who cant dedicate as much time as others on here, and keep them informed of threads that get lost in the amount of crap we produce

Jamieg285

I have purchased it, and it's installed in the test region.  Seems to be OK, the preview option is handy, but I don't think it will make much difference to people finding stuff within the crap.

When I next get some decent 'Admin' time, I will get it transferred 'Live'.

does the preview show the thread in a window when the mouse runs over a thread on the front page?

Jamieg285

No, it's within the Thread title box, shows a snippet of all the replies (Downside is, if there loads of replies, it's a very big preview.)

Won't that make the main forum page look really messy?
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Jamie, can we access the test are from the web so we can see it in action?

Won't be on the main page, it's an addon.

Also, the other thing about it I don't like - it opens up the threads in a new window(although this may be 'fixable')

PM on it's way - others shout if you want access.

55starchief

Hmm looks promising, would definatley help if your away from the forum for a couple of days to find important stuff

***EDIT***

Jamie is it posable to find code that will show the first post of a thread when the mouse goes over it like on Vbulletin?

Anything is possible, but I don't think it's likely.

MiniBB won't do it as it's against their 'minimalist' principles (unless you pay - might be worth enquiring - as a addon on minibbox?)

It would be possible to work out code to do it, but it would take ages, and I don't have that time available.

It depends on the complexity of the change, but in relative terms they are cheap.

Well shall we ask the users on here if it would be something they would like? then we could aproach the code monkeys at miniBB for a price. Personaly i think it would be useful especialy for quickly scaning threads and i am in for $50 towards the coding
