Any reason why this won't suit my Camaro ?

MMMmmm, I wonder if it would do anything for mine?  Add a bit of a kick when the torque starts to drop?

Jamieg285

Anyone know how to identify Wieand intakes?   I have no idea what the one I have is.

Roadkill

I Thought Weilands, Edelbrock and Offy's have their name cast in them ?

You can have mine if I can get something more suitable sorted . . .

Any idea where - the obvious place just says Wieand, and the other bit I have seen lists the firing order.

Although I haven't actually looked for anything else.

I was considering a swap - if I can find out what mine is(and if it's suitable of course)

Often to the rear of the carb . . . but not sure if they go as far as stating the model on them . . . normally just the make . . .

Although, having said that, I'm guessing that pre/post 87s aren't properly compatible.

It's definitely a Wieand, but no idea what, or what specs it's capable of. Like the cam, it could be completely inappropriate.

I Think it's just the thread angle on the inner two holes on either side.

the early ones are all even but the later ones are perpendicular to the ground.  (Making it easier to bolt them up - not interferred with by the Carb platform) . . .

edlebrocks aren't that expensive at all... check the price of the pukker article before going for a poor copy..

dual plane would work much better than the single plane one you have at the moment though, so in principal it would be a good one, but i dont believe the edlebrock is as much as his BIN price..

its also possible to get manifolds for the later engines, so there is no point in modifying an earlier one to suit - there is no significant price difference.

Ok boys and girls (not sure of the mix in here yet, don't want to offend ) let's shed some light on the subject. Roadkill, the "port" tou see in the picture is for a heat riser style choke used mainly in the 70s. Edelbrock and Offy are pretty good about casting the name of the unit into it, Performer, 360, SP2P, ect. The only Weiand I've seen do this is the Team G, which is equivalent to an Edelbrock Victor jr. A high RPM intake, 3500+. A good street car with a mild cam, or just to improve over the stock manifold, you will want a dual plane, Performer type of intake. Single plane intakes, Torker, Team G, Victor, require more extensive engine modifications to get the most out of them. More radical camshafts, lower gearing, higher stall torque converter (automatic), ect.

Roadkill

So as I Thought the Torker II fitted to my 305ci is "inappropriate".

And.

I had guessed similar at first, but it looked deeper then ones on other manifolds I'd seen . . . so was unsure.

Question is, GM partsman , what manifold would you recommend for my 305ci . . . . Cos the Torker is balls.

I would use a Perfomer, or similar dual plane intake. To get the most out of a Torker you would need need a pretty big cam, which in a 305 would have baaaaaad street manners, and a nasty idle, 2800-3200 stall converter, and probably a 4.10 rear gear. I'm guessing you're mostly stock, so a torker is killing your low end power bigtime. A Performer is a great improvement over stock, and can keep of with some mild mods, whereas stock is restrictive.

Roadkill

I've got a B/W T5 Manual Box, not Auto, with a Center Force clutch, Hurst shifter.

The Engine is fairly stock - Headers, Weber Carb (that's about it)

Rear axle (we think) is 3.73:1 - Soon to be LSD.

Goatman

A manual is good, as you don't have to worry about changing converter stall speed.
What year Camaro is it?

Roadkill

The Camaro is an '83 . . . . . . But the engine is (apparently) a '92.

Goatman

Is it a roller or flat tappet cam? What kind of availability of parts do you have over there? Any used, salvage yards, or do you have to get a lot from over here?

Roadkill

Flat tappet I believe.

Parts availability is pretty good for Chevy . . albeit alot dearer (thanks taxman) then in the States.

Used stuff is normally knackered stuff.  Salvage yards do exist for US cars but they're normally full of crap TBH - siesed motors and rotten bodies.
