Depends on how your doing it - you need a separate relay for Hi/Lo, so if going for '1' relay per lamp, you actually need 2 - therefore 8 in total. I would go for 4 relays, with each relay operating a pair.  Whatever relay you use, you will need two feeds out from each relay. One way will have 1 wire out with you will run to 2 lamps, the other, using the above would use 2 leads out.

If I were doing it, I would do the following, using the 5 blade one above -
Pair as follows to a relay each
Both outer Lo
Both outer Hi
Both inner Lo
Both inner Hi

That way, if a single relay or fuse fails, you will still have light on both sides of the car operational, rather than both on one side going together.

That is a Mighty fine idea my friend, Very safety concious & I had not thought of that.

Ok, so 4 "Double 87pin relays it is, 2 per Beam type.

Next question is where to Site the relays, I was thinking under the "Tool shelf" in the middle of the car

Extra cost again (only £5) but if you are looking for neatness, get the Interlocking relay sockets (code:RSI ) http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/relays/relays.html\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/relays/relays.html . You can then have them neatly stacked and made easier to locate wherever you want.

What's the tool shelf? Is that under bonnet or in interior?

Also, the shorter the leads from battery to lights, the less power loss, although I am not sure if a few extra feet would make a noticeable difference.

Its that expanse of black plastic thats under  the bonnet where the Latch is.  In t' middle

Just up the cable size for a longer run

Well some of the quantities are a bit excess... Like the wiring but I want to be sure I've got enough + wire is always handy to have, likewise with the Split Loom but there's other bits that need sorting with thats stuff too...

and the Relays & Relay Box themselves come to £34.53...

Looks very similar to the fuse panel I bought a while ago.
