The Android phone platform has real promise.

The first one (G1?) was cheap and nasty plastic and a bit confusing, but the latest phone using it (I forget the name) looks real nice.

It they can catch up on apps and keep it slick and easy to use (Google have a habit of being geeky and thus not so hot on user friendliness in anything but their basic search) then it should be one of the top platofrms long term...

Looks interesting, but like most new technology like that give it 6 months or so for the first batches to get firmware updates etc. My worst phone ever was the Sony Ericsson C902, had it about a week after it was available on Orange. So new they hadn't even badged it yet.

I personally after only two weeks of ownership recommend this hands down. It does look like there is going to be a new competition in 'touch screen' and 'mobile computing' phones between Apple and Google. I think Windows has ruled itself out by being too clunky and slow.

Spot on. Phones in the future WILL be Apple OS based OR Google Android.

Yes a great phone but I held-off getting one as the build was very low quality.

The HTC Magic (the white one) came out a little after the G1 and it was much nicer. Quite a few models out now though:

None look as nice or have the same specification as the A1 though..

What's it like spec wise compared to the iPhone? I watched a small trailer/clip in what's called HQ on YouTube and was blown away with the detail and colour. It's definately something Apple have raised the bar on in terms of mobile viewing.

Sorry I really can't get excited about a mobile phone, however good they get the keyboard and screen will always be too small

Yah but they have made it as easy as possible to view webpages through your phone, like the iPhone you can just 'pinch' to zoom in, and 'wipe' to move around the page.. Uber cool..
