I was reminded tonight that it's been (just over) 50 years since Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper died in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa.
While Richie Valens and The Big Bopper were relative newbies at the time Holly was a pioneer of his day and inspired many to follow - Dylan, the Stones and the Beatles to name a few . . .
I was lucky enough to find myself passing through Clear Lake in June last year (Power Tour FTW!) so we took the detour into the "sticks" to find the crash site.
1/2 mile of walking through a partially flooded corn field later I stumbled (literally) apon the shrine marking the crash site.
It was a weird day for me.
I'm a big fan of Rock n Roll and Rockabilly, and decided that it was worth a few minutes of my time to write this.
Holly had a major hand in changing the face of popular music in the late 50's . . . . he died aged 22.
Respect.
