If it's left till later in the year I may be able to help out.

Having spent most of last weekend under mine doing the exhaust, and the upcoming week of window out surgery, I need to do some 'family' time for the next few weeks.

Just seen this.

That said I'm lacking in transport at the mo - maybe able to get over there sunday afternoon if that helps ?

FUBAR

This isn't happening this week because of Saturday's driving needs.

I'll probably leave it now until winter hits when the car won't be going anywhere anyway.

Cheers though guys.

vibration in auto thirdgens is very common, there is a bronze bushing in the tail shaft of the gearbox that wears (its usualy got a decent ammount of play by 100,00 miles). if you can grab hold of the front of the prop, and move it about, its highly likely to be the cause, as any movement there effectivley throws the prop out of balance as it shakes around.

the tail shaft extension can be removed, anbd the bush pressed in and out.

i've tried this before after you'd said about this and I can't feel any movement there so I think its ok.

These jobs will now be done over winter when I donlt have any time constraints, makes it a bit more relaxing...

Well, I discovered the other week that the cruise control has stopped working for some reason, I have replaced the "easy to get to" 4mm vacuum hoses in the engine bay with new silicone hoses to no avail  Others I haven't changed because I didn't realise they were a different size

[edit] when I pulled the old hoses off to change them they seemed to still be holding vacuum, but seeing as i'd already bought the hoses I changed them anyway, + the Black Silicone looks nicer ) [/edit]

Does anyone have any other ideas as to why this might have stopped working?
1 other idea I have is that its the switches contained in the "GM Stalk of Power" because the Cruise has always been slow to activate & takes a few goes to get it to kick in, the good news I already have a replacement part for that because I bought it for my old Z28 and never fitted it (variable wipers & everything)

Bad news is I don't see how it is changed & would imagine (if needed) getting the Steering column apart without breaking it will be a total Bitch of a job and if that is needed i'll get a new lock barrel as well.

So cruise control, any ideas guys? I NEED to get this fixed.

My '92 Eldo was exactly the same (after I fixed it from not working at all).

Did you change the lines under the car (to the tank as well) ?

Is there a relay/fuse for it ? (thinking out loud)

To the little round tank under the D/S 'battery tray'? if so yes.

I haven't actually checked the fuse because I could feel it engaging & then just not holding speed, the other possibility thinking along these lines is that the brake interrupt switch may have gone wrong & is turning the cruise off straight away, i'll check that also.

I would've thought so, so long as the key shape is the same and the tag location is the same.

Has you barrel died? I know a cheap way of getting around it but does involve by-passing VATS.

I'd be amazed if they were different.

I have bypassed the VATS on mine with a simple plug in resistor ( think there's a thread on the forum about it ? )

Mine you I went even further and bought a £13 signal generator module which can bypass the VATS signal in the main ECU if it fails ( quite common ).

It's wired into a switch under the dash should the need arise

Same as on mine, measure the resistor chip, get some equivalent resistors, remove lower dash pad, I think its the two orange wires, splice in the resistors, job done. Did this all outside the MOT station where the barrel decided to die last year!

FUBAR

I know i could bypass it but i'd rather not, it is the lock barrel because it does its 3-min cool-down thing when it can't detect the key sometimes.

+ the barrel is worn anyway because you can remove the key with the engine still running.

if that fits, which I agree with Dean, i'd be amazed if Part-sharing kings GM made them different.

Hey Ryan, I guessed this would suit your car, and the for uses would suggested it will also work with a Corvette...

Columns are all the same by GM either tilt or not. Only early GM cars differ slightly. Rockauto will have one for your car think it is £25 for a Delco one.
